"When you upgrade you will be charged a pro-rated fee to level up the remaining time on your existing membership to the desired level," the website states.

"For example, if you purchased a 12-month membership five months ago and have seven months left, you will need to pay a pro-rated upgrade fee to upgrade your remaining seven months to the desired plan level.

"Then on your next payment date, you will be charged for the standard price of the membership plan level that you upgraded to at your current payment frequency."

Also, players who have previously purchased the digital version of select games from the original PlayStation and PSP generation will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PlayStation Plus to play these titles on PS4 or PS5. When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title. So that's less than 100 games and they said there'd be around 400 so expect a lot more announcements over the coming weeks. I didn't include any of the streaming or PS3 titles included in the overseas Premium tier seeing as we'll have no access to them.

I wasn't going to post this as a deal, I originally posted it in the forums but saw it posted over on OZbargain so figured I'd post it as a deal as well and the mods can remove it if they want.

    • So if I do nothing, do I just automatically roll into the Essential package for the remaining term, or is topping up for a price differential also required as well for lowest plan?

Still not sure of what is meant by streaming the old games (not available here anyway). Is this some online emulator rather than traditional purchase (added to library) and download and install to play?

      • I think you will have the option to rollover to essential at not additional cost, but you will also have the option to convert to the higher tier but you will have days deducted to make up for the price difference.

I don't know about this. It's more expensive than Gamepass is in NZ, EA Play isn't included, and so far nearly all the PS4/5 games listed have either already been given away as monthly PS+ games in the past or are part of the instant game collection on PS5, which leaves only a couple of titles that I haven't played yet. I already have Gamepass and the third party games in the list above I've already played most of them through that service. Also pretty sure you don't get access to the PC versions of any of the games either.

Obviously they'll be releasing the names of further titles over the coming weeks but unless they announce some real bangers I don't think I'll even bother upgrading my subscription from the basic tier straight away.

Also gotta say that their price reduction for having no access to the PS3 games for the top tier is pathetic. I made a comment a few weeks ago on this deal https://www.cheapies.nz/node/33206 where I estimated the prices for each tier based on the US pricing, and I was spot on with my prices, I worked out the top tier to be $179.95 without the discount so Sony only discounted $7 off for us? That's ridiculous, that works out they reduced each month by around 50c for losing a large chunk of the games off it. You reckon if they added a bunch of PS3 games to the service they'd only charge 50c/month for access to them?

This is why my PS5 is always idle while im always on XSX

    • If you can move freely between the tiers then that is a real winner for me.
Demon Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman Miles Morales, Death Stranding and Returnal haven't been on the IGC yet and definitely worth a few months subscription for me.

I think this is a pretty good deal including the PS+ Essential free games and the rest of the catalogue which is supposed to be over 300 titles and updated monthly.

I don't think the top tier is worth it. but the mid is definitely good for a few months.

I will probably treat it like a do with every streaming service now, I wait for things to binge then switch between Disney +/ Amazon Prime/ Neon and Netflix rather than be subscribed to them all at the same time like i used to be.

SO i might just switch in between Essential and Extra when some good titles come out.

      • That's all good if you only have a monthly subscription but most people buy 12 month subscriptions (I have 3 years worth myself) and I'm not 100% sure but from what I gather I can either pay the difference to upgrade that to one of the higher tier plans or leave it as it is, I haven't read anything about being able to switch back and forth between tiers and changing to pay monthly is just a waste of money because they charge you a heck of a lot more for 30 day subs (12 x monthly sub to Extra tier = $263.40 compared to a 1 x 12 month sub for $149.95)

  • Hoping for some VPN tricks that are similar to xbox live lol

    • +1

Xbox is completely different from Playstation with how their stores work.

There's no "vpn tricks" for PS+, it's simply a case of finding the country with the cheapest PS+ that sells gift cards and creating an account for that region on your console, same if you're buying games from overseas. Subbing through an overseas store means your NZ account will lose access to some features, like online saves, and you'll be locked out of your existing NZ PS+ games library, but you'll still be able to play online and access any games downloaded to the console by the new account.

Personally if you've been a NZ PS+ subscriber for a while I'd just stick with NZ prices, it's more expensive but easier.

Honest question but is this a deal or an ad? It doesn't seem to be limited time or anything, isn't it just a new service? Upgrades cost the same as a new subscriber.
Edit: saw your comment, if I was a mod I'd remove it as it doesn't seem to fit the intent of the site (even though it's getting upvoted, presumably by the 'thanks, I hadn't received a psn email about it yet' crowd).

    • I agree - similar to when the latest PS+ games get posted - they're free sure, as part of a subscription, and the subscription isn't discounted here. Should we be posting when a new album drops on Spotify or Netflix comedy special?

      • Hahahahaha and Disney+

      • +6

It amazes me the difference between the NZ and Aus Cheapies sites. Like I said in the comments above I wasn't going to post this as a deal until I saw it on OZbargains, and I see over at OZbargains this now has nearly 100 upvotes, no downvotes and with over 100 comments no one complaining about whether it should be posted on there or not. Yet here in NZ people ALWAYS complain about posts like this, I think some people just like whinging about things for the sake of whinging.

        • To me it fails the first rule on the "new deal" page - "Only good bargains, please". There's no bargain here - PS+ isn't discounted at the moment. If admins are happy with having the latest subscription bundle content posted then I don't have a problem with it, but they should make a clear exception for it - otherwise, complaints are valid.

      Agree, advert

So you downvote the deal along with every comment where I've replied to people on the deal?… wait a minute, aren't you the person who made some comment a few days ago saying that you "had a feeling" or something along those lines that the PB Tech code I provided couldn't be used on the deal I posted it on without actually taking the 30 seconds to check it first like I did when I posted it? And then your comment got downvoted into oblivion? Yeah, that's you… that explains it. You salty much?

Cheers for the post HmmYepNah! Appreciate this info.

  • I think I'll stick to the essentials. This new PS plus is very, very so so.
Probably some of those games will have the discs cheaper around the market.
