Umbrellas - suggestions?

I'm looking for one of those full size golf type umbrellas. Any suggestions on something that is decent but will not break the bank? Those Blunt umbrellas look awesome but I can't justify spending $100+ on one.

In my experience, I haven't found anything in between. Blunt's "blunt" design really is incomparable to anything else.

  • I own and recommend the Xiaomi Automatic lightweight Umbrella

  • What's your budget

    • Probably $50 tops

If you don't have a $10 Bunnings umbrella, you may hand in your Cheapies card now, we won't penalise you ;)

But in all seriousness, it's actually surprising how good their umbrellas are: easily the best umbrellas under $50 imho. They have all the features of higher end models: fibreglass struts (not cheap folded steel), spring auto-open, nice soft handle, silver-lined to reduce heat in the sun, wind gust vents. I'm really surprised they can keep making them for so cheap. But in spite of looking I haven't found anything comparable even close to the $10 mark.

Of course, you might not like advertising for them or might be in the market for something more compact, I get that. I thought it's worth mentioning anyway.

    • I don't see them anymore, and they aren't $10 anymore. But a good option if you can find them.

      • I saw some a week or two back, I'm pretty sure? Sometimes they do go out of stock during weeks of heavy rain.

      • This one might be a candidate. $15.98
"Premium vented umbrella, fibre glass shaft and ribs, premium rubber handle." Ticks the boxes aside from the silver lining - can't tell from the photo.

      • I've just found them on the Powerpass app and they are still $10 and still in stock in most stores I looked at.

        • Just found it as well. Good deal, selling for more in oz

    • Thanks, I've never seen them at Bunnings but perhaps that's cos I've always been in for something else. Will have a look next time

      • They are usually right by the door or checkouts. I've just found then on the Powerpass app and most (but not all) stores I've looked at have them in stock.

    • Can you share the link pls?

Sorry, it's not on the website, but if you have the Powerpass app you can find it under item # 8510111. It looks like most stores still have plenty of stock.

  • I think we need people living in windy Wellington to recommend 😂

    • I'm in Auckland, and I've given up trying to use an umbrella…haha

I highly recommend Blunt umbrellas for Wellington. They are better value for money than the dozens of $10 umbrellas I've gone through. My 7-year-old full size Blunt is still going strong. (I have never tried the Bunnings ones though.)

I second Blunt umbrellas. Wait for a sale or pick one from flybuys when they have a sale. Honestly, money well spent and it won't let you down when you want the most. $10 ones bit me hard couple of times, specifically was on my way to an interview and got blew away by the wind. Had rain pouring down on me rather than interview questions. lol.

Never really noticed Bunnings umbrella, will check out next time.

  • Also with blunt. The canopies are replaceable if they rip, they're big into repairing rather than throwing things away.

I saw some charcoal classic ones I Farmers Westgate for $60 in the weekend. Old packaging in the round tube. Same great umbrella.
