250-300ms to UK is standard
Looks like a French server, any reason for the test?
thanks ! much lot appreciated
@Toddy47
I play an old fps now and then and one of the only active servers is hosted in this network . I currently ping around 300-310ms but have pinged 270 before and believe it or not it makes a difference
Cheers ! :)
Run a traceroute to see where it is going, Slingshot will be the same route internationally, so difference between a Wellington and Auckland connection would just be the local transit between Wellington and Auckland which for me is 10ms. If you've seen a 40ms increase it would indicate either one of the paths is down and it is taking a longer route, or the server itself is in another location.
I'm in the exact same boat. I play an old FPS from time to time and I would normally get 200 ping to a server in Texas and other servers in the US but all of a sudden my ping jumped +100ms to all servers. It was a while back, I did a traceroute at the time and had a friend do one as well. It seemed to only affect my ISP (2degrees) as they got a much better ping (similar to my old one). My route went through a different server on the east coast and was clearly the one "lagging". After a while it went back to normal but then went up again randomly a few months later.
My workaround when it happened is to use USB tethering on my phone and mobile data. Believe it or not I actually ended up with a lower ping to those servers through mobile than with my ISP which was quite insane if you think about it.
Might get more feedback if you post on Geekzone
