Looking for Robot Vaccum Cleaner Recommendations

I am looking at giving a robot vacuum cleaner a go for the first time.

Just looking for peoples thoughts on them as a whole? I'm assuming I will still need to do some manual vacuuming/ touch ups?

Any specific model recommendations? I have been looking at Xiaomi ones as its a brand I quite like and they seem to be well regarded online
Budget: preferably below $400 but could stretch if there is something really good value

Any deals at the moment? Best to just order from aliexpress?

Apologies if this has been posted in the past, I thought it had but cant seem find it

Probably a lot more than you wanted to spend but we have had a S7 Roborock for quite some time and it's really good. We haven't used our Hoover Regal vacuum cleaner in months. It cleans well, mops the floor also and is very easy to set up and operate. We haven't had any problems what so ever. It's worth taking a look on Youtube to see how good it is.

We got the S6 Pure on the last sale listed on here. Goes really well, impressed with what it picks up on carpet. Hard floors are a bit more hit and miss, the mop function is waste of time imho. It just drags a wet cloth back and forth.

If you want one that does both well you will need to spend a lot more.

I have a S6 as well. Like it a lot. We have vinyl floors throughout the house so the mopping function is used quite a bit. I tell Alexa to tell Roborock where to vacuum. I was very fortunate to get mine second-hand off TradeMe for $260ish (if I recall correctly). Right place right time.

As others have said, Xioami/Roborock is the best value for money. Don't bother looking at Roomba, imo they cost a lot more and don't even provide as good a clean/number of features.

For below $400 you can pick up a second hand first or second gen. Even the first gen does very well at cleaning.

I have been using Mi 1c for a year now, best value for money. Few of my friends & family have bought it and everyone is happy. Yes, it's not the latest & greatest but gets the job done really well.

Drawbacks: No sonar or camera so it can't detect between dirt and rogue item so you might have to tidy the place up before sending it to clean. But in terms of picking up things, it does great job. Also, no multi-map. It can save only 1 map. But I just let it loose upstairs(with carpet) without map once in awhile to clean under the bed and it does the job.

Other option is Roborock, many times it S6 goes on sale on Market just above your price range. Keep an eye out. I won't recommend Aliexpress, just cause of warranty. Rather get cheap accessories from there.

I have had a Roomba for almost 5 years now. Battery died at about 3.5-4 years. Bought a third party battery from themarket, didn't work very well, so bought an OEM battery and since then has worked like new again.

We use it a few times a week. No touch up necessary, the only time we need to use the old-school vac is for the stairs.

A deep clean of the robot every 6 months or so is a good idea.

We have a Ecovacs Deebot 950. Does a great job; saves to much time. We have a multiple level house, so we let it map the biggest most frequently vacuumed space, as that makes it more efficient over time as it learns. And then I just pick it up from its base station and put it on the different floor and let it go for it elsewhere. It does have multifloor/level mapping, but to make that work you need to relocate the base station and that introduces a bunch of other drama (ie power points/cords, and loosing maps ironically enough). Since I have stopped moving the base station I have never had an issue with the maps going out of wack - which is one of the main concerns people have with these.

We got this model as it had really good reviews for suction and climbing (if you have substantive rugs to climb); and tbh its just as good if not better than our normal plug in vacuum, so we don't even bother with the normal one (except for stairs).

The app is pretty good, easy to use, blocking out no go zones, or mopping zones (we have never used the mopping as its just dragging around a rag - so never saw the point).

We replaced our carpet recently and got very dark carpet and it freaks out occasionally - but this is a common issue with many robot vac's….must be something to do with how the sensors "see" what is under them….but we have worked out how to make it not panic - most of the time :D just by getting it to avoid certain things that it has to climb over.

But yeah we were late to the robot vac party, but wouldn't go without one now. Possibly one of the greatest inventions for humankind :P

Go with Roborock S6, I think you can get it at around $550 when it's on sale, I've had it for over a year now, it works very well.

Also don't use Mi Home app for it, download Roborock App instead.

If you search reviews on Youtube, Roborock is one of the best reviewed vacuums.

What’s the thinking on which app to use? I use the Mi Home one so curious what I’m missing out on

I couldn't get Alexa to work with the Mi Home app but could wit the Roborock app.

I saw it last night, and would have probably committed if it was closer to 650 mark, 800 seems a lot to try for the first time ever but does look so good,,, aaaah the internal conflict on this one hahahaha
