Please Recommend Mandolines to Me

Looking into buying a mandoline to cut veges easier and get thinner slices. Anyone have any recommendations of brands or models?

I've looked into Borner brands which looks awesome but unfortunately they're out of my budget.

My budget is $50

  • Not in the $50 budget but we have a Benriner (made in Japan) which we bought from Moore Wilson's for about $60 and very happy with it. Their price now is $62.95 but out of stock currently. Best price I can see at the moment is $69.09 from The Nile: https://www.thenile.co.nz/home/classic-mandolin-vegetable-sl…. We talked about getting a mandoline for years but weren't sure we'd get the use out of it but we use it a lot so was a worthwhile purchase (just watch your fingers!)

It looks awesome! I'll have to keep an eye out.

I'm considering buying a secondhand unit and see how it goes and maybe I'll plunge into a brand new model.

      Thanks for the recommendation!

      • Yeah good idea see how much use you get out of it. We make a lot more Japanese food now as their dishes are big on shredded cabbage - easy to do on the mandoline. Nisbets have a very similar one on sale atm at $64.90: https://www.nisbets.co.nz/vogue-japanese-mandoline/d445

I have this one which is $79 AUD delivered: https://www.amazon.com.au/Progressive-55600-Professional-Man…
Cleans up really quickly and no separate accessories to keep track of/lose.

will keep this in mind. thanks!

how long have you had yours for? and how are the blades holding up?

Have had it for about five years now. It only gets used about once a month but seems to still be reasonably sharp, not as sharp as when it was new but still works OK.
