  • This was like $100 when I bought it not long ago on PC?!

    • Why would you pay $100 for it when it's on Gamepass? $100 is 2 years of Gamepass Ultimate if you do it right.

      • From memory there was a difference between PC and Xbox GamePass versions, and I wanted this on PC but gamepass for xbox, something like that.

Serious question though, when it says Platform Xbox Series X, will that run on the lower spec Xbox Series S as well?

        • Yeah it runs on S.

Gamepass Ultimate gives you access to both the console and PC versions of the game.

        • +1

The game does, played it when i had an s, but if this is for the disc version then it wont (cos disc)

          • @quote: Oh yeah, that whole no disc thing, good point!

        • You can heavily mod it Skyrim-style if you own the PC version, or have PC Game Pass.

You can't do that with the console versions.

          • @Avantime: Are you replying to me? I clearly said GAMEPASS ULTIMATE which gives you access to both the console and PC versions of the game, hence why I asked why they'd pay $100 for the game when that's 2 years of GPU.

@[Deactivated]: What I'm saying is that it's generally not worth playing Flight Simulator on Xbox, which is what OP's deal is for. Like Skyrim, the game depends on mods that will greatly extend the replay-ability of the game. While there are a few mods approved for Xbox, Flight Simulator on Xbox is generally an inferior experience compared to the PC version. But if it's only $15 and you don't have a gaming PC, maybe this particular deal is worth it for a few hours of entertainment.

Still for 95% of gamers Game Pass will be much better value than owning the game. If you own a gaming PC then pretty much all the mods on PC will work on the Game Pass version.

To answer your question as to why people will pay $100 for the game when it's like 2 years of GPU? For the 5% that are hardcore flight simmers, they'll want to own the game because chances are they'll be playing it for more than 2 years, potentially forever until the next instalment of the franchise is released. Many of those people used to play something called Prepar3D, a flight simulator sold by Lockheed Martin (Yes that giant US defence contractor) to civilians for "academic" (wink, wink) and commercial purposes. This happened after Microsoft abandoned the Flight Simulator franchise ~12 years ago, and Lockheed later acquired the Flight Simulator X source code from MS.

And those in the know will want to own the Steam version of Flight Simulator, as the MS Store & Game Pass versions have their core game files locked and encrypted inside a virtual drive. However the Steam version doesn't and if you want to tinker with the game Skyrim-style, you'll want the Steam version.

Finally if you're wondering "How do they make money?", the answer is that Phil Spencer (head of Xbox) greenlit this game because it's a time-sink game that will drive Game Pass subscriptions, like Euro Truck Simulator or "just one more turn" Civilization. And Phil absolutely means business for Game Pass as he recently spent almost US$70 billion buying Activision Blizzard. Also Microsoft takes a cut on all sales in the Flight Simulator marketplace, and there are a lot of hardcore flight simmer whales who are both rich (many are current/retired pilots and aviation professionals) and are known to spend it large on both paid mods (aka addons) and bespoke cockpit hardware. Finally Flight Simulator is a tech showcase for Azure cloud tech and Bing maps, which MS can show off to its corporate clients.

    • Are you sure it wasn't FS2020 that you bought?

EDIT: This is 2020 my bad.

  • This game is chill
