That Crucial P2 really works hard to avoid telling you that it's both DRAMless AND QLC.

    https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crucial-p2-m-2-nvme-ssd

"Crucial has swapped out the TLC flash that powered the initial P2 SSD we tested with QLC flash, severely reducing performance. We've written an investigation into that matter, which you can read here, with our results showing that the 'new' drives are nearly four times slower at transferring files than the original, read speeds are half as fast in real-world tests, and sustained write speeds have dropped to USB 2.0-like levels of a mere 40 MBps. That’s slower than most hard drives."

    https://www.tomshardware.com/features/crucial-p2-ssd-qlc-fla…

I wouldn't trust it. When it has they good things, they scream them from the rooftops. When it has the bad things, it tries to deflect to the things it does have and pretends to be ignorant of the fact that it's utilising garbage tech.

    • Thanks, yeah it's pretty shady tactics they're using now days

Removed it from above but its here:

      • I was able to get 1T pcie gen 3 nvme sticks for less /T than the sata.

        • Hi Bill,

          Please could you elaborate?

I would be interested in picking up something at a good price!

          Thanks,

          Alan.

          • @Alan6984: Unfortunately, that price is not longer available, you know how it is.

It was the Silicon Power A60 1TB. Extremely well reviewed, excellent, high-value budget option. Was $129 sometime earlier this year from extremepc. They actually raised the price minutes before I was going to purchase, but I got them to bring it back down. Very good cs. Might be able to get a similar price from amazon but I have no experience.

Why not get a 256gb from that deal earlier? I had actually seen it way before the deal was posted but I thought it was ripped from 5 year old ex-leased and wiped.

            • @Bill: Yeah - deals come and go pretty fast :-)

I'm not in any rush, so I'll probably just see what comes along - might get a bargain like you!

              • @Alan6984: You can get the TEAMGROUP MP33 1TB for ~$150 from Amazon US.
I'm considering getting one for myself

                • @Bargain-Hunter: I'll check it out - thanks!

                  • @Alan6984: Don't forget to check B&H

They got some deals with clip coupons

                    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Portable-Hard-Drives…

                    • @Huntakillaz: Do you literally just click on the 'clip coupon' and it discounts (in that case by 16%)?

I've bought drives from B&H before, but never noticed a 'clip coupon' before - hope I didn't miss it!

Seems kind of odd, as they are effectively advertising a higher price than they are really charging.

                      • @Alan6984: Yeah it shows coupon discount separately, but I haven't checked much if they're cheaper than what we have here

Just grabbed the 2TB MX500 from PB

    • Crucial P5 2000Gb is much better than P2 and it still uses 3D Nand and is super fast for a Gen 3 PCIe.

You can get the P5 from Amazon Australia for AUD $246/1.1*1.15 = AUD $258.18 delivered (approx. NZD $283), more than $100 less than PB Tech price.

I have one of these and it's almost same performance as my Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2Tb and waaaay better than a SATA drive.

  • Bleh still too expensive, will wait till these go for half price 😃
