  MLC = 2 bit = Multi Level Cell
  TLC = 3 bit = Triple Level Cell
  QLC = 4 bit = Quad Level Cell
  
  Going beyond two bits per cell beggared belief back when it came out (hence MLC and not DLC). Every increase of cell density is a shocking proposition because of the exponential worsening of everything except profits. 3D NAND was able to make TLC passable (3D was an improvement of every metric, including reliability), but we don't have access to a fourth dimension to fix the QLC issue.
