Cheap USB-C Cables That Work :)

Hi, I'm looking for cheap USB-C cables that work: ). We already have quite a lot; they came with flagship Samsung phones and tablets, but some of them are not working or taking a long time to charge.

Belkin cables are so expensive. I wonder if there are cheaper alternatives that work?? Or should I buy micro USB/ USB-C adapters, as I still have so many micro USB cables that work (but no longer many micro-USB devices).

I really like the Xiaomi ones. $9 from pbtech

I bought a pack of a dozen (or so) USB Mini to USB Micro many years ago when I was in a similar situation - they worked fine for me, so I cannot see why USB Micro to USB-C wouldn't work similarly well, and if they are cheap (pretty sure the dozen cost me about $2 all up including postage from China), I figure worth giving them a go?

Price might be higher now of course :-)

    • Thanks. About 50c each on aliexpress, I might give it a go!

Get Baseus or Ugreen ones through AliExpress or Amazon Au.

Get the braided ones from baseus, ugreen or pzoz from aliexpress. They have worked for me always.

bought couple of this ones more than a year ago and working fine. I have similar usb-c to lightning which are great as well.

Tip: place multiple orders in case shipping increases a lot.

If need urgently, check Amazon AU

    • Hi Ace,

What is the advantage of multiple orders if shipping costs going up?

Aren't the shipping costs fixed at the time you place the order?

      Thanks,

      Alan.

      • Some of the cables include free shipping or low charge, but if you add more than 1, shipping charge is not just double, sometimes it is more.

For eg. the link I gave, the shipping is $3.43 for 1 cable. if I add 2, it's $8.26. So not sure how they work, but you can always contact the seller and ask for discount but it's not easy from the app.

        • Okay, but if I ordered two separately (multiple orders), wouldn't that just mean I'd also get two shipping charges?

I'm not sure what the benefit of multiple orders would be? Am I missing something obvious?

          • @Alan6984: Total Shipping charge for separate orders = $6.86 (3.43 x 2) compared to $8.26 for combined one.

            • @ace310: Ahhhh - Now I get it. Very odd that.

I was definitely missing the obvious :-)

  • Any recommendation on usb c to 3.5mm cable?

If you're looking to increase the charging speed, first of all, don't get micro USB/ USB-C adapters.

To achieve the max charging speed your device can accept, you need to match the chargers amp, voltage with the device's max wattage. The charger will have a dc output with an amp and voltage rating. Multiply them together and you get the wattage that is outputted. There will be different outputs the charger can do. The cable is not important; it is the power adapter that matters.

The easiest way to get the max speed is to just use the included charger that comes with the device.

I agree on the adapters. I have those micro usb to usb c adapters and somehow I don't get the best charging speed compared to using regular usb-c cables. I tried it using same wall adapter, so it has to be the cable not supporting higher wattage.

    • "The cable is not important; it is the power adapter that matters."

Not entirely accurate. With three cables and three chargers here I've checked and noted some differences in charging speed on different devices with different combos of cable and charger. As I've said , any cable supplied with the phone will indeed be capable of supplying the best charging speed when paired with the correct charger. Buying a bunch of new cables from Ali Express isn't probably going to help. Yeah sure, replace cables that just don't work but take a look at the chargers. Do some careful switched of cable/chargers. Use the 'Ampere' app to tell you what charge rates you're getting.

  • Slow charging is less likely to be a cable issue, rather more likely to be low power chargers. The cables that came with a phone WILL be capable of delivering the Max charge rate the phone can handle, but plugging the cable in to a low rate charger won't deliver the best charging experience. Not all chargers are the same by a long shot.

Some phones will have special charger/cable combos. My Oppo has VOOC charging and using the supplied cable + charger will charge it a LOT faster than any other cable + charger.

  • Be aware that USB-C is a massive mess ! They solve the physical plug compatibility but nothing else !
    See : https://www.androidauthority.com/state-of-usb-c-870996/

The charging speed depend on 3 elements:
    * Your charger (the one that go to the wall)
    * The cable : USB-C cable
    * Your device
The charging speed will be the slowest of the 3 elements.

If you are using a converter from micro-USB, then that cable will likely be the bottleneck as micro USB standard allow max 2.4Amp x 5V = 12W. And this is the theorical max for the cable. Real-life: probably less.

  • Noticed that some will only charge and not do data transfer. I have found my best cable is an apple ipad pro cable. The worst cable was one that Amazon provides with the kindle, it didn't plug in very well compared to the ipad one.
