I have the p11 and working well. Great screen clarity and sound as well.
The p11 pro is currently on special for $499.
11.5 inches screen is a bonus.

Does it have to be Android?
The latest base model iPad is $569 and should be in stock at places like JB, PB Tech etc
Or just online via Apple but it won't arrive in time: https://www.apple.com/nz/shop/buy-ipad/ipad-10-2

Its a little over budget and a change of OS, but you'd probably find a far better experience overall with iPad, even if you are an Android mobile (or Windows computer) user

Yeah you would almost say that for someone that may be a bit tech dis-inclined (over 60's etc), Apple offers a better user experience… more often than not, things just work.

Security is the biggest issue though so just make sure you've got passwords / PIN's kept securely somewhere other than her brain haha

It is $529 from Apple Education which is very close to $500 mark.

Also, might be able to stack cashrewards 1.5% for additional discounts.

Definitely better then android at this price range.

good point. I'd forgotten about the education discount but as OP needs by the weekend that might not be a viable option

It says in stock and delivered by Thursday for my address. So should be fine.

    • $529 at Noel Leeming school/uni discount. I'm getting myself an iPad as well, Android updates are just so rare.

  • Yeah I'm using Lenovo p11 now. It's good. You have to look for the sales those they vary from $599 to $439, ( that's what I paid).

I’d stick to iPad not Android tablets for elderly people. They are much easier to learn and make the most of, and receive lots of security and software updates for 4+ years.

FaceTime is also great - makes calls easy.

Plus even the standard $500ish iPad feels premium and not plastic like most Android tablets in the sub-$500 range.
