Your old post got me curious about Amazon.com prices.

      14TB $468.69 delivered
      16TB $563.30 delivered
      18TB $618.17 delivered

      • Yeah hence saying for local warranty upto 5yrs, which Amazon may or may not do
I got a 18tb from the UK on prime day but it's faulty so have to return and wait again, thats another 2 months vs waiting a few days or a week with PBtech

        • how much does it cost to send it back?

        • Warranty for drives I purchased in Japan is allowed but you have to send to Hong Kong at your cost

  • Be extremely careful ordering these (with delivery) from PB Tech they do not package them properly. They literally wrap them in paper and stick them in a box. Had to return 4 drives across 3 different orders because the drives were literally damaged and dented from transit. Serious amateur hour in their fulfilment centre.

Ideally order one drive at a time so the drives can't damage each other within the same box.

    • Can you take a pic and post it on their fb page?

amazon.com.au also just chuck WD Red drives in a box with a single inflatable pillow and call it a day. Lucky they also take back returns at their cost and give an easy refund.

I had to return an 8TB drive (1 of the three I ordered) after 2 days of power on it started making high pitch noises and died….

      • Good to know about amazon.com.au. I once had to return a wyze cam to amz.com and the shipping was 1.5x the price of the device. After a lot of online chats they finally said to just keep the faulty one and they'd send a replacement.

Have enough budget for one but no extras for redundancy setup, any of you just JBOD your NAS?

    • Been JBOD ing for a while, but made sure i have offsite backup at the family home, that gets updated every 6month/1yr (So data loss wasn't as huge)

But definitely need to build a home Nas sever with TrueNas or whatever Wendell (Level1 Techs) says is best setup.

    • Try UnRaid, have the largest drive as a back-up parity and all the other drives combined for storage..

  • I've been looking into getting a NAS with either 2 or 4 bays, would a drive like this be suitable? I would only get one and have the other be a smaller drive though.

Reason for NAS is to back up photos/videos (photographer) and run plex.
