  • Vive la competition!

Couldn't recall whether they had these free-selling thing pre Marketplace.

Definitely losing out to marketplace for sure.

Lately TradeMe has been full of companies, some off shore too, so it feels more like a market type product now.

Ironically that's what Facebook is like now too, insanely full of ads.

its like Trade me is like The Market & Facebook Marketplace had a baby
though the process went in reverse?

Marketplace is a thriving place for scammers. In my experience there are more scammers there than genuine buyers/sellers. I and my friends have had a few experiences (the kind of scams I thought would never happen in NZ) which makes us rather trust+use Trademe even with success fees.

      • 100%

        No verified addresses etc.

Just trademe has a lot less content these days though as a buyer.

  • What are considered general items?

    • +1

If you go to TradeMe and hit "list an item", the top option is 'general items', so presumably anything that would usually go under there (eg. not jobs/property/services etc)

      • Cheers, I always use My Products for creating listings so never seen a "general goods" option.

  • Timing is impeccable! Grandad said last night he’d like me to list a car up for sale

    Thanks OP!

good that it’s free but tbh can’t be bothered using it anyway

  • Is it targeted? I stopped getting these emails while still receiving some. I'll need to check my account.

    • Doesn't seem to be targeted, they're advertising it on the main site as well - my partner and I both got the email for our accounts, although hers came through a couple hours later than mine, so they might send them out in batches throughout the day.

      Definitely not targeted - Free-Selling-Saturday-13-August

      • Awesome! I've got so much stuff that I've cheapied over the years to sell .

  • Is this $1 reserve or can I list any price with a buy now?

  • I list something on one of these fee free days with a buy now price and it sold via buy now. I was still charged a fee. Is that correct?

    • should be charged and then a refund applied

    • in the emails it states the fee but it shouldn't be charged, also those $1 reserves cant have a buy now.

    • did you edit the deal afterwards e.g extend the auction date? theyll probably refund you if you done something like that

      • Mmm I didn't receive a refund and I didn't edit the auction. Will see if I can get a refund… Thanks all.
