LiPo battery charger (seeking a Wellington seller)

Just keen to know if any posters based in Wellington could put one of these (like a SkyRC T100) on Trade Me or FB Marketplace for me to buy.

Unfortunately the two cheap USB chargers I received with a pair of Flyhal FC600 trucks haven't remained useful for long at all, both the red light and green charging light now immediately flicking off when a battery is connected.

I got the imax b6 off bangood. About $50 NZ.
Comes with everything you need. I've put about 100 charges of 3 diff batteries through it so far so so good. I couldn't justify a more expensive one, yet.

Have you checked out quadifys site. He's a kiwi and reviews just about everything for these cars. Great bloke… Sometimes lurks here too.

  • Thanks medved, yes Banggood and Aliexpress suggestions (and any coupon codes to apply) will also be appreciated posts. It's more just the shipping time that's making me keen for a local purchase and pick up, because the kids are currently really hooked on racing the trucks.

This seller shipped me my charger quite quickly.

Comes with NZ (AU) plug and a deans connector. Choose option "T 100 with T" and then AU plug.

Sorry I can't remember how long it took, but it was quick, maybe it was 2-4 weeks. I remember being impressed and how quick it was.

I'm based in Kingston, Wellington if you want to borrow my charger or something like that.

My kid is just turning 3 now, he likes playing with the truck but hasn't quite mastered the whole turning thing properly yet.

Edit: Wagner, I thought you were buying that t100 charger :-P

    ….

with two cars you definitely would benefit from either a dual or quad port charger or a parallel charging board (I wouldn't recommend parallel charging though because your kids might make a mistake and start a fire).

  • Hey kiwijunglist! Yes I was discussing with you that plan of mine to buy the T100 charger. Then someone said something quite similar to medved, along the lines of $50 being ample to be spending unless the hobby really takes, kids being so fickle in that regard.

I figured I'd get a few weeks of life out of the cheap USB chargers with a voltage reader on the batts, then buy a proper charger when a nice coupon code had appeared, or the November 11 sales.

    Hey man

A good charger is usually one of the first things I recommend as an upgrade. They are much safer and will mean you get more cycles through your batteries. Here is an article I wrote on this a while back. The ISDT 608AC is the charger I recommend, it is way better than the very old SKYRC and clones. https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/a-better-charger-for-…

A few companies like Hobbystation and Quadjunkie sell these locally for just under $100

  • Hi NS, on the back of your nice review, I'll go with the ISDT 608AC from Hobbystation by the looks of it. Can you pick out the adapter I'll be needing until I've upgraded the batteries?

    Is it that one?

Yes that is the correct adapter 👍

  • Hi NS, have you ever come across any charts (or personal experience) re: the reduction of a LiPo battery's life by setting them to charge at higher and faster rates? Instinctively I've steered well clear of charging at the 8A rate, but interested in 1A vs. 2.5A and that type of difference.

Stick with 1s (e.g. 2a is pack is 2000mah) to be safe. Max 2s. No decrease in life at these levels. You could go faster but you'd be better off getting more batteries by this point
