Replacement/Spare Fob for Keyless Entry/Start Vehicle?

Got a 2007 Fielder, had a scare yesterday when I thought I'd lost the proximity fob that does the keyless entry and ignition, just got off the phone with the local Toyota dealer and was quoted over $410 to get a spare.

Anyone know of any other places you can get them from a bit cheaper before I pull the trigger?

A locksmith should be able to do one cheaper.

  • locksmart if you're in auckland can sort this.

We use them at work for sorting out any car related lock issues / reprogramming / new keys

    • They trade as Begg Security in Otago and quoted over $500

      • sure we are talking about the same place? Couldn't find any common directors etc either.
Far as I know they service wider Auckland only.

        • Just got off the phone with them, $480+gst

If your patient, you can buy the remote key (w. transponder chip) and OBD remote key programming device from Aliexpress.
I recently did this for my partners Toyota Camry. Total cost was $40.

Edit: you must have the primary key fob for this to work

    • This sounds like a plan. Do I need to search for my specific model of vehicle or is it one size fits all?

    • Might be a bit of an ask, but any chance you could write up exactly what we would need to acquire and then do?

      • +1. I followed this thread because I was curious as well.

      • HmmYepNah posted a useful link below that has instructions specific for Toyota, Lexus, and Scion vehicles.

        • You will likely need to open up your current key fob to verify to the key you need to to purchase. This can be tricky sometimes as there may versions with different frequencies and/or transponder chips.
    • I did this a few years ago for a Toyota Echo. You'll have to make sure the transceiver is the right frequency, etc. but most sellers will list compatible makes and models.

Next part is to look up the key programming process. I don't know if all Toyotas are the same but I suspect they are. Here's one site that tells you how to do it, YMMV and if it doesn't work, look for other instructions, but they look familiar to me.

      • Thanks for your reply but I think people are getting a bit confused. I'll try and make it clearer. My car doesn't use keys, there is a big button on my dash that I push to start the vehicle and the vehicle won't start unless the proximity fob is within range. I don't need to press a button on the fob to lock or unlock the vehicle it will do it automatically when I approach it. I am not wanting a remote control I am wanting a proximity fob they are two different things. I wish it was just a remote I was needing because it would be cheaper and easier.

        • Ah yes, sorry you're right. Somehow I forgot that this was a pushbutton ignition after reading the other comments. That is a different process and may involve programming via OBD2 connection. That's more in depth and I haven't tried it.

  • Also do they have this tool available for Hondas?

you can always source your own from the likes of ali etc and program it yourself, it takes a bit of time to find the right tutorials online. This is all it will take you is time and patience and the original fob. The cost they charge are in no way shape or form in any relation of the amount of work it takes to program the silly thing.

Ok thanks Bargain-Hunter and Ebzmyst for pointing me in the right direction of what to look for. After a bit of searching I finally found a tutorial, it all seems pretty straight forward

For the fob it looks like mine is a B90EA with board ID: 271451-0500 which I can get for $112 on Aliexpress, not sure if I can use cheaper generic ones or if it has to be this exact model? If anyone knows let me know. I mean $112 is still cheaper than $410 but I'm not going to say no to saving even more money if I can.

I have an OBD2 USB cable that I've never used, you're welcome to have it if you can pick up in north Auckland or don't mind paying shipping.

      • That's nice of you, thanks but I've literally just got off the phone with a mate down here who can get one for me.

    • It sounds like you're on the right track. I had a quick look, but I didn't have much luck finding anything cheaper.

I might have mislead you on the price because I was comparing it to a non-proximity key fob, thus the difference in price.
