Just want to point out how ridiculously over priced these guys are.

Buffalo chicken pizza $49??? That was ~$36 like 3 years ago and not to mention they're so stingy with their chicken to begin with (it costs $14 to add chicken to a pizza and they only put like 10 small bits on), I can't see how this cost is justified.

100% agree. I don’t rate it that great either, was extremely oily for my liking. Each to their own though.

    • its crazy, they really need to have a meeting to find a way to make it more economical, they are always empty when i go past,i will keep an eye on it as i want to see them break the $50 barrier.

      • Honestly I've seen so many ads on Facebook recently for "once in a lifetime franchise opportunities" or "high turnover restaurant, 200k owners surplus" etc for Sals restaurants that are for sale I wouldn't be surprised if they were run by clowns or the ex directors of sky tv…

Sal's is the most basic pizza ever. Make it at home. Buy baker's yeast (usually comes in a big block for like $3) and keep it in an airtight container.

Mix 1 cup of flour + 1 tablespoon sugar + 1 teaspoon salt + 1 tablespoon baker's yeast then mix in 3/4 cup of water until it's very smooth
When mixture is smooth shake 1 more cup flour over mixture and roll into a ball
Don't knead, that's unnecessary effort and you made long gluten chains in step 1
Cover so it's dark/warm and let it rise for 20+ minutes (I actually mix my dough in a slow cooker set to warm so just close the lid and wait)
Pre-heat oven and pizza stone to maximum for 20 minutes
Spray pan with oil, scatter fine polenta over pan (this is sneaky pizza magic and makes it seem crispier)
When the dough is spongey spread base onto pan by hand. It'll be sticky on the inside so dust it with more flour if you have to.
Sauce + cheese (less, not more) + toppings (also less) in that order
Dust with more polenta on the exposed crust and salt
Into the oven for 7-10 minutes

      Advanced mode:

If you want it oily like Sal's then add a tablespoon of melted butter and garlic on the base before the sauce goes on. Also makes a great base on its own.

The best cheese is pizza blend from gilmours, freeze what you're not using in small bags. If you don't squash them back into blocks you can put it on the pizza frozen.

High grade flour is identical to 000 grade pizza flour, so use whichever.

If you want a more risen base, after making the pizza but before putting it in the oven leave it on the bench for another 20 minutes. If you want it really thin and crispy, don't let the dough rise in the earlier process and just hand-roll it into the pan straight away. It'll still rise a bit in the oven. This is the most "Italian".

If you love it, buy a big spatula, pizza pans and mezzaluna from SaveBarn and a big round pizza board from Spotlight.

Make sure to pay with Amex to get another $5 off via Shop Small.

    • They wouldn't allow me to use Amex with the online order

      • Same here. Tried to use Amex in Parnell last year. They didn't accept it even though sal's pizza Parnell was on the shop small list.

      • Worked for me ordering from Fort Street in the city last night!

  • Dominos had a 3 pizza $22 deal for an entire month :(

    • Size wise these are similar to the ?former New Yorker range of Dominos rather than the standard ones

    • What was the code for this please? (if it's still available).

Never saw it on the list of current coupons https://www.cheapies.nz/deals/dominos.co.nz

      • its no longer available unfortunately… best deal dominos had so far, I never ate so many supremes

  • Did they organise this better than their February promotion? I remember they didn't seem to tell their stores about it to the extent their stores were running out of meatballs and when I was picking up my pizza the manager or someone was calling up other stores to try and find some for tomorrow
