thewarehouse.co.nz Adds 'marketplace' (TheMarket Retailers)

https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/c/third-party-sellers

Essentially they have loaded a bunch of themarket.com sku's onsite and they also charge extra shipping fees via the warehouse's website(compared to TheMarket having some stores like 1-day offer free shipping with MarketClub+).

What the hell are they thinking, I mean they built another platform for this already.. Just makes the user experience worse

    What a mess. 41,698 items.

  • I always say that TheMarket will be the undoing of the Noel Leeming Group. I get what they're doing but it's too much, too hard.

  • But… Why? So silly.

    • Probably getting rid of themarket admins and integrating them into current warehouse online team, but I dunno. The coupons can be extremely generous sometimes ahem.

  • So what's next. NL or warehouse stationary having marketplace. This makes everything so complicated.

I haven't used 1-day since they moved it to the market.

Can see this reducing the likelihood that i'd use the warehouse app.

    • Already use it less with no free shipping codes

  • I'm guessing The Market was TWG trying to get ahead of Amazon. Unless they're majorly undercutting the fees that Amazon charge retailers I can't see it working long term.

    • afaik the typical commission is 30% but I expect that'd be lower with fancy-pants stores or brands

  • Are they going to allow you to click and collect?

    • Nope

  • Just looking at Woks on TWH sold online thru HiMart - is this an example of what you are talking about? If I want to buy from a non TWH vendor then Ill just use The Market.

  • It looks like they are changing a few things.
I tried to buy a Head & Shoulders shampoo last night but it would only let me select $6 delivery fee and wouldn't allow Click & Collect.
So I asked live chat and was told because this shampoo isn't available at all the stores so I cannot do click and collect

Interesting bits from the September annual report:

    Apps

The Warehouse and Noel Leeming apps are already among the most downloaded and highly rated apps in New Zealand, and we anticipate a convergence of our brands and their apps and online channels into a single point of reference for the ease and convenience of our customers, leveraging the power of our Group and beyond.

    MarketClub

We launched our unified membership programme, MarketClub, starting with a rollout across TheMarket.com and The Warehouse, acquiring nearly 600,000 active members by the end of FY22. We are busy expanding our membership base and capability within this programme, and have plans to roll this out to the entire Group.

Investment is underway into systems and backend tools to support future customer features and benefits, first-party data, retail media, and the unified expansion of theprogramme across the full portfolio of brands.

      Bring it on.
The early days of anything new are the best time to find ‘loopholes’ before they fix the bugs.

    • Thanks for sharing that Wakrak. Fingers crossed for them they can keep forging ahead. Fingers crossed for us that glitches and mistakes happen on their end

  • More about third party sellers on thewarehouse.co.nz

We are proud to be able to provide customers with the choice to purchase goods from a wide range of sources. In addition to enabling you to purchase goods directly from our Group Entities, we also provide the ability for you to purchase goods from independent third party sellers (“Third Party Sellers” or “3P Sellers”), directly via our Websites and Platforms. We are committed to keeping your shopping experience as easy as possible, regardless of whether you purchase from us, or from a 3P Seller. However, at times, processes and your purchasing experience may be different. Where relevant, these Terms also set out what you can expect when purchasing goods from a 3P Seller.

By placing an order to purchase goods from a 3P Seller, you agree that personal information that is necessary to fulfil your order will be disclosed to the 3P Seller, and that the terms of the 3P Seller’s Privacy Policy will also apply.

    Purchasing goods from 3P Sellers
The following terms apply when purchasing goods from 3P Sellers via our Websites and Platforms. Where there is any inconsistency between the terms in this clause and the remainder of these Terms, the terms in this clause will take priority.

In addition to selling our goods, we also provide the ability for 3P Sellers to sell their goods via our Websites and Platforms. Where goods are being sold by a 3P Seller, the listing will include the 3P Seller’s details in addition to any terms of sale specific to the 3P Sellers’s goods (for example, estimated delivery timeframes and delivery costs). You can identify whether a good is sold by a Group Entity or by a 3P Seller by looking for ‘Sold and Shipped by’ (or similar language) when browsing our Websites and Platforms.
By purchasing goods from a 3P Seller, you are transacting directly with the 3P Seller, and The Warehouse Group is not a party to the transaction. As a result, The Warehouse Group does not control any aspect of the transaction, including the listing content, the accuracy or the quality, shipping or delivery of goods. Delivery times are set by 3P Sellers and therefore vary depending on which 3P Seller you are purchasing from.

You agree that where you are purchasing goods from 3P Sellers, The Warehouse Group is not responsible for the transactions that occur between you and the 3P Seller, nor are we responsible for the 3P Seller’s goods or associated services, to the extent permitted by law. We make no warranty or representation regarding any goods or services to be supplied by the 3P Seller. Nothing in this clause is intended to have the effect of restricting or modifying your rights or our obligations that cannot be restricted or modified by law (including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993).

Unless specified otherwise, promotions, offers, and deals advertised by our Group Entities do not apply to goods sold by 3P Sellers.
The following payment methods are not available for transactions in which goods are being purchased from a 3P Seller. Further, you agree not to attempt to make a purchase from a 3P Seller using the following payment methods.

    • The Warehouse Christmas Club
    • Gift Cards issued by Group Entities (except for purchases on TheMarket with a gift card issued by TheMarket).

Picked some of this a while back: https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/93860/redir

Will be interesting to see what's next, I guess this is a good idea from a cost saving/efficiency perspective, but it certainly does seem unnecessary.

  • Maybe it's because TWH is a more well known brand itself. I still see people asking if The Market is a legit website.

  • A bunch of the 1-day listings loaded on site are months or even years old(ie from ~2020) and are OOS but still onsite.

Shows 1755 items on the mobile app but 4591 on desktop. No idea if you can filter the mobile app for instock 1-day items or if they have 1755 instock SKU's.
