What is the best time of year - in terms of sales - to buy new home appliances?

I'm gearing up to undertake a full renovation of the kitchen, bathroom and living room of my new place.
As I am in no rush (and wouldn't be posting here If I didn't like a good deal), I'm interested in hearing your thought on when I should bulk buy all my required appliances??

Appliances required:
Oven
Stovetop/hob
Dishwasher
Microwave
TV

Fixtures:
Couch
Dining table
Bath
Vanity

  • If you know what you are after then suggest Priceme / Pricespy to see the cheapest the particular models have been then go in bold as brass to Harvey Norman / Noels / preferred retailer of choice with the full list and ask them to match or beat it. I've found they are quite receptive to discounting and if you have additional leverage of a list I don't think you need to wait for a particular time of year or sale period.

Towards the end of the month with sales targets to hit, especially if you are someone who normally goes for extended warranties, may also be a go.

Otherwise, I've got a few bits from https://applianceoutlet.co.nz/ if you dont mind a ding or two, no box etc. for a discounted price.

  • Have brought a new TV, fridgefreezer, washer and microwave all this year and all from 'the market' except the washer on trademe. When the market has a 10% discount coupon and noel leeming has what I'm after at a 'hot price'. Saved $100's.
Agreeing with former post, prefer priceme myself because if you scroll down it gives you the price history. So you can see how cheap your appliance has been and can possibly be again

  • Used to be black friday for major appliances, however the deals seem to have been toning down as the years go by. Most public holiday sales should be quite similar.

  • You can often get a good deal just by talking to the sales staff.
Make it look like you're keen on buying but still happy to walk away if the price isn't right.
Work out what you are prepared to pay before going into the store and don't pay more than what you think it's worth.
Don't go on just what the shelf price says.

  • +1

In terms of bulk buying, our experience in the past (when buying pretty much all major appliances prior to a move in date) was that the stores don't really seem to care too much around doing bulk prices, and their "discounts" were more/less on different items, so we found it beneficial to go to a variety of places with the list of what you want and then compare the prices for each and purchase individual items from who ever offered the best price. YMMV

  • Hi, 'the market' app has an 11% off coupon. Also check out tsb living for furniture that's available through the market and their prices are great anyway. Deal King is really good too, not sure if deal King's on the market

  • Thanks big cheese. Gives me time I'm looking at the queen size bed base with draws in it from tsb living. Haven't decided which mattress yet untill I go in there and jump up and down on a few. That 11% is a great one for big spends
