Kogan SmarterHome Outdoor Battery Powered Wireless Security Camera $9.99 + Free Shipping @ Dick Smith (Kogan)

580

Cheap outdoor battery powered security camera. Wouldn't expect much in the way of image quality, but could be suitable as a pet cam or similar. The same camera is $115 on Mighty Ape.

This smart outdoor camera is easy to install in minutes. With motion detection sensors and enhanced night vision up to 10m, you can watch footage from your smart device and get push notifications directly to your smartphone. The Kogan SmarterHome™ Outdoor Battery Powered 1080p Wireless Security Smart Camera is compatible with Google Nest Hub and Amazon Alexa Echo Show.

Here is a review of the same camera, just under Kmart's Anko brand.

  • Did anyone have any issues with theirs? I'm finally installing mine now and one is just flashing red and blue on the charging light and seemingly not taking any charge. Not the end of the world as I have another 4 that seem to be working fine, might be cheeky and see if they'll replace the defective one.

    • My two are working great, sorry to hear you are having problems. Definitely ask for a replacement if one of yours is faulty!

      • 4 of the 5 are fine it's just one of them, not the end of the world but I'll see what dick smith say. I was going to try and let the battery run out completely to see if that helped but I'll be there for weeks with it sitting at 20%. The fifth was going to be used as a spare to rotate in when I charger the others.

Think I might also play with the fifth one to see if it's worth the effort of moving my smart home on to a raspberry pi as a server. If it can remove the reliance on the cloud server I think it's worth the effort as that seems to be being quite flakey as a service.

I had a faulty one my comment here https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/157452/redir.

DS replaced it and let me keep the defective camera too! I managed to get rid of the broken glass and camera has no image issues works fine.

The customer service was excellent, no hassle of getting a replacement, Definitely do it.

          • @fatboyj: Complained yesterday and they emailed back saying they'll send another one within half an hour. Their form was thought out ahead to actually ask what I wanted if it was deemed defective so they literally just replied with a generic response saying a replacement is on its way.

Tempted to crack open the defective one or see.if it can be run connected to a power supply as I'm sure I can find a use for a spare camera. Worst case scenario it's now a play thing for when I finally look to run home assistant.
