  • Is the referral program still active?

  • I see they have the campervan option ~ does anyone know if it can be easily changed from home install to campervan install both connection and hardware wise?

    • I'm not an expert, but from what I understand the only difference is that you're allowed to roam outside your "home" zone with the RV option, but your traffic will be de-prioritised compared to being in the "home" zone. From what I hear it's not something anyone has noticed. But otherwise, the hardware is the same - just mounting method is a tripod vs a mast mount bracket.

  • Does anyone know how to order the FLAT HIGH PERFORMANCE dish which allows you for in-motion use?
Also does anyone has experience with using this on a small boat.
I am aware of the Maritime version which is intended for open ocean use but I am specifically looking at using the "in-motion-use" dish with the RV subscription and using it for near shore use. e.g within 30nm from the shore.

    • The high performance one isn't due to be released until December, and won't be cheap - probably $5000 for the dish. The RV plan is the only one currently available without a fixed address and is often used by boaties for use while stationery. The advantage of that one is that it's currently $540, and the higher monthly $199 plan can be paused when not in use (a monthly block is still the shortest time period you can buy though).

Government has a subsidy of $2000 for satellite broadband, apply here.

    • Any idea how slow existing options need to be to be eligible? Can't see it specified

      • +1

Basically if you can't get RBI or UFB then you're eligible.

        • My parents on stuck on ADSL because a bodycorp won't allow fibre, does that still fall under it you reckon?

          • +1

@corbettjms: I don't think that'll work. Are your parents interested in standing for the next bodycorp election and voting out the dinosaurs?

      thats a really generous incentive

Unfortunately the grant will only be available after the Starlink sale has finished. I enquired about the grant on Monday, and the response from Crown Infrastructure Partners was:
"The vouchers will be available after the RFP is complete as we are will have a good idea of who will be able to be covered by the end of this process. We are aiming for the second half of 2023."

But the form is very quick to fill out, so you may as well because CIP may provide another technology.

  • Wow didn't know about this. Thank you! And thanks to the tax payers too for my 2k rebate.

  • Money required to prop up the dying Twitter ;)

We have had Starlink for about a year and it's been great. We're on the old, round style of satellite they first launched with. Wasn't aware there was a potential subsidy though, hope they backdate it 🤞

    • I've had Starlink for about a year too. Its been great.
Happy to try to answer any questions that people may have about Starlink

      • Referral program still working?

        • Old mate on Geekzone said this:

The referral program has finished, it was fairly short lived, it only lasted a month or 6 weeks iirc. Not nearly long enough.
