  • Awesome deal!

  • Westpac is cheeky now, I saw one of their cards stating "1st year annual card fee will be refunded to you in the 2nd year". Must have been lots of cancellations in the past.

  • Sorry for my naivety but why is this an awesome deal? Is AMex better than Visa/Mastercard?

Well, you get 200 Airpoints plus a domestic flight for free. This card normally costs $395 so you are getting it for free.

I would recommend just spending the $500 to see if it works out better for you than your current card but definitely cancel before a year. They may waive the 2nd year fees as well if you threaten to cancel.

I'm not too familiar with Airpoints however I do know they can be used with their Star Alliance Partners to redeem flights.

the free travel/medical/personal liability insurance is pretty good value too.

        • The free travel can be quite a pain. You have to call them up to make a booking (and you can't see the availability of it until you try booking via the operator) Very limited space but as long as you book it well in advanced, you'll get a spot.

  • Pity it doesn't give you lounge access :-(
The Koru Membership is not cheap…

Just waiting for a permanent NZ address.

  • "You are required a personal gross (pre-tax) annual income of $65,000 or more"
Is that a minimum requirement? I'm still a student working part-time haha.

    • yuep, same boat, student and working part time. Doubt i'll get that much in the first few years of work either.

  • What's the conversion rate of status points to upgrades?
