How to Connect 2 Monitors to a Laptop?

Hi everyone

I have a laptop which has one HDMI port. How can I connect 2 monitors to it? Would something like this work?

My laptop is a ASUS ROG Strix SCAR GL732 17" FHD, so this one I think

    maybe use 1 HDMI and 1 USB-c?

Edit: didn't see your first link. That cable should work.

    • Cool, thanks!

This is basically the only answer. The only thing to note, and I’m not sure whether it applies to your device, is that some manufacturers build so the HDMI is connected directly to the GPU, and the USB-C DisplayPort is connected to onboard graphics.

You’ll only use one monitor to game anyway, but bear that in mind if you get surprisingly low frame rates over DisplayPort.

      • Thanks. It's actually for working, not gaming!

    • I believe this will only mirror 2 screens and not extend them which OP might be interested in. I could be wrong as description doesn't mention clearly but states

These splitters will distribute a HDMI source to multiple HDMI displays simultaneously.

      • You're correct, this will duplicate, not extend.

        • In my retail days we ended up moving hdmi splitters well away from the IT bits because people are determined that they do, in fact, allow multiple displays.

People still vehemently bought them and would call us up for aftersales… despite what they were told, ahh days.

  • I've picked up a USB C Hub that I use with my multiple work laptops. This allows extending the screen across 3 monitors (laptop screen + 2x external monitors). And another benefit is that it provides power to the laptop too. So no need to worry if you've only got 1 usb-c port.

Think it was this one from Amazon.
