Meater - Smart Meat Thermometer $229.99 + Shipping / Pickup @ Mitre 10

80

Just bought myself a Meater from Mitre 10 with my airpoints. Realised they beat other prices by 15% so did a quick google and found it for $199+GST. Means it was $228.85, or $1.14 cheaper than Mitre 10 so they had to give it to me for $194.52. Muhahahaha.

Get in quick before they change it!

I love the 15% price beat! I found a Karcher steam mop $0.95 cheaper online so I got my discount!! The lady at M10 was pissed, not sure why though, no skin off her nose.

    • extra work?

If she was pissed then she probably shouldn't be in that role.

As a result, Mitre 10 got a sale, and the other place didn't. The scheme worked exactly as designed in Mitre10's favour.

  • how does this compare to inkbird thermometer?

Lots of Mitre 10s are doing 5x airpoints on Thursday if anyone wants to wait until then.

  • Anyone know if Mitre10 will be doing gift cards for x amount of spend?

Can only speak for myself but I had the Meater Block version of this with 2x probes and it is now a paper weight after 7 or so cooks.

    • Patchy connection between the probe and the block even when the block was 30cm away inside the BBQ
    • App wouldn't calculate ETA cook times
    • The block would drain batteries overnight even though it's powered off
    • Probes not holding charge
    • Ultimately the batteries failed
    • Customer support suggested I buy 2 new probes at a discounted rate of around $300 for the 2 (was outside warranty period)

Ended up buying an Inkbird IBBQ-4T for a fraction of the price and I couldn't be happier.

you need to put the price in the title, also i cant believe the price of this, spend it on meat instead.

  • I got one from the original Kickstarter. Great in theory, in reality pretty flakey, loads of bugs and not as useful as one of those ones with the probe on a wire that you can leave in the BBQ/oven.

They may have improved, but that's a lot of money just to be able to ask Alexa when your brisket will be ready (which is only works half the time).

I was considering one of these a few years ago, but the poor reviews put me off - not to mention the price too!

I ended up with one of these which has been going strong for 3 plus years and dozens of cooks. I just carry around the wireless part with me. Easy, robust, and no stupid app to muck around with.

$180.20 on Amazon.com (incl. currency, delivery and GST).

  • Don't do it, overpriced unit when the InkBird stuff is much cheaper and works as well, if not better, especially the ones with a separate transmitter and receiver, anything that goes via Bluetooth is gonna have issues of both performance and range
