so far away, can we car pool anyone?

Nice share OP. I’m almost tempted to drive to Auckland…

These are also sold at the Food Factory Shop, Stanmore Road, Christchurch. The last time I bought them (a couple of months ago) they were $18.50 a box.

  • You do have to call them up first before you get going, as the popular flavours sell out fast. Also note that they close at 3:30pm, and closed during the weekend.

IMO best to confirm @ 3:15pm the day prior and head out to Silverdale at ~5am the next day (they open at 6am), and return home before the Northern Motorway clogs up.

All this trouble for pies… (Gets the car ready for an early morning drive on EV)

any room for another? I'll give you gas money.

Doooooo it, I want to see a cheapies roadtrip happen just for pie deals.

I drove to Silverdale to pick up that NL portable aircon deal, happened to be staying only 15mins away at the time. Would definitely do again for the pies

  • Curious, what are "seconds" pies like as I've never been to their store. At ice cream outlets, you can find a different flavour in the wrong tub, uneven percentage of a multiflavour tub etc etc.

    • Generally means that they’ve reworked the pastry or not passed QA controls - such as too much % of one ingredient

      • +4

yah I'll take ten boxes of seconds with too much % of meat.

        • Even a steak gravy and cheese pie sounds good.

    • They're good. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. We actually buy these all the time, keep them in the freezer for a quick snack or dinner.

  • Makes me want a Fairlie pie

Is it good? Any flavours to recommend? I might pay them a visit

    • Definitely good, better than frozen pies you get from the supermarket.

  • +1

Ugh, need to make space in the freezer. But thanks, might pop by tomorrow and see what they have available as it’s just down the road from me.

I’ve had the family size Angus steak and cheese in the past and it’s good. Nice generous chunks of meat. Have also tried the impossible mince and cheese and surprisingly tasty too.

  • It looks like they also make Dad's Pies lol. Does anyone know if they taste the same?

    • Yeah they taste the same.

    • Yep exactly the same, just branding

  • What a great price but how do they manage to make so many "seconds"?

    • Dads pies is a pretty large producer of pies in NZ, it’s only a small % by volume really.

    • +1

They've been making pies for BP.
