Still going strong after 4 years.
Having setup and used many TCL TV's myself maybe you need to do a factory reset on yours. I always find them to be reasonably responsive, well above their price point.
If price is the main concern why not this one - I know it's Veon which are traditionally weak in the sound space, but not an issue if running through a receiver and HT setup at all times.

I just wish you could buy a TV this size that wasn't a smart TV.
Days of not getting a smart tv are gone.
Vein had two issues for me, the sound as you say but also no discrete input select IR codes for a universal remote.
Maybe not an issue nowadays as we don’t have a heap of other devices plugged into them, but worth a mention
