My googling suggested these are not long lasting scales. I think the problem is corrosion causes by damp environment and condensation in bathrooms. Or bathroom is not particular steamy though and it lives under the bathroom cabinet which was not damp at all.

mine is still going strong. dont use it all that often though. well ventilated bathroom. the casing of it looks pretty well sealed and i dont keep batteries in it all the time which i guess reduces the risk.

          • @sigma: Thanks guys!
I decide to waterproofing my brand new scale now. Lol

            • @freeocha: Just out of interest, how are you going to do that?

              • @Mykey: Just ask your local boating shop. They got all kinds of waterproofing stuff.
I bought some kind of waterproofing spray before. And they are useful and easy to use.

                • @freeocha: Cheerss for the tip,
I suspect they are silicone based products.

I've had one for 4 years and it works fine still.

On the matter of accuracy, I would say the weight is accurate, but all the body measurement stuff (body fat %, etc.) is not accurate at all. I would recommend just regular scales instead.

        • iirc China does have a different BMI standard etc but it shouldn't be that drastic of a difference if thye are using that one.

          • @Dunno: yeah sometimes it can say you are overweight when from a western perspective you are a normal weight

          • @Dunno: BMI is a statistic? They may put BMIs in different weight classes but it should still be the same reading.

            • @Bill: Yeah, BMI is just a ratio of body weight over body height squared. That’s not what I was talking about. I mean the things this device supposedly measures using the electrical conduction pads you stand on. Things like body fat %, muscle mass, bone mass. Those measurements are not accurate at all.

  • I don't love this scale. Delay between turning on and getting a weight readout is a few seconds longer than I'd like. Drained batteries whilst in storage (maybe my fault but still annoying). And tells me I have the body of someone 15 years older than me… (profanity) you xiaomi.
