  • Thanks, bought some Ambi control units!

    • Any thoughts on Ambi vs. Sensibo?

Looking to smarten up my air-con unit. I started the following conversation on Geekzone:

I currently have Sensibo - I can come back to you in about a week once delivered. I quite like Sensibo but by far their biggest detractor is the subscription plan. I don’t have it and it isn’t necessary to have, but the novelty automation features you most want for smartifying your home are paywalled and for that’s ridiculous for the price of each unit. That being said, that is my only and biggest gripe and I’ve used it for about 3/4 years now and no issues day to day.

Thanks for the response and looking forward to your feedback.

          • @Wakrak: Additionally, I haven’t seen anything touching near this price point ($40) though and just for that I would say that’s a really good deal and worth throwing cash at. YouTube reviews on it look decent too. But yeah, I’ll circle back later post delivery.

            • @CheapiesFiend: Is the ambi just another IR Transmitter or it works both ways? Meaning if you switch ac on with remote does ambi detect that?

I have broadlink rm4 mini universal remote which works flawlessly. Only issue is it doesn't know the status of ac if you switch it on/off via remote. Advantage of universal remote is I can control other IR devices in the room like I have fan and humidifier so it's great. Plus nice integration with Home Assistant so everything works from 1 app. It also works with alexa and siri.

Edit: I have the temperature and humidity sensor in broadlink which can be used for automation based on it, but haven't done any. It works fine as have tested it.

              • @ace310: Sensibo generally works both ways. I couldn’t properly test Ambi in that regard just because I had my Sensibo still set up so it was blasting the command to each other. Sorry couldn’t help more

                • @CheapiesFiend: I am aware of Sensibo working both ways to asked about Ambi.

Does Ambi shows the current status if the AC is ON/OFF? So in case if you switch it ON via sensibo what does Ambi show?

                  • @ace310: As above. I didn’t get to test this element properly as I would need to disconnect my Sensibo device, and I’m not doing that.

                    • @CheapiesFiend: Alright thanks. I thought you were running both together.

                      • @ace310: Yeah I was, so to answer you question yes if I blasted from one the other would immediately pick it up also and reflect in the app. But I would say that was because it was reading the IR blast command. Not because it recognised the setting change in the heat pump itself. If that makes sense

@CheapiesFiend: Thanks. That's helpfull. I will research more. Not really keen to change my broadlink at the moment as it serves the purpose for now.

@Wakrak: Hey so it arrived today and I quite like it. It has the same basic features as Sensibo + AI. super easy setup and UI. Comparing it to Sensibo I think it’s much the muchness. Ambi has AI to work to your personal comfort temp and keep it there based on user feed back over time where as Sensibo has climate react settings (so when it’s too hot/cold/muggy it will turn on) based on the current environment. Both have good analytics by the looks of it. I haven’t integrated Ambi on my smart home and tested the ‘Hey Google’ responses, as it will be a gift for a family member so don’t want to fluff about too much with it.

Long story short, would I buy this for myself? Yes.

Would I swap it out with my current Sensibo setup? No, just because I have it all set up and the features are not significantly different or better enough to warrant it.

Would I suggest buying it? Overall yes, the price point is very reasonable especially compared to Sensibo and it’s plug n play / set n forget. Don’t need to tinker around with the coding and such like a IR blaster.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer any other questions you may have

@CheapiesFiend: Mint. Sounds like it's the one for me. Now to decide what price I want it at.

    • Did you have any issues connecting your AC2 to the Cloud? During setup, I can connect to the AC2 wifi, I can connect to my wifi, but it stuffs up when it tries to download from the cloud. Live chat reckons it might be a hardware issue. Been talking to em for two days.

  • They've now cancelled the coupon, at least the AMBI one isn't working.

    • Thought that might happen. ah well.
