We have a bunch of C200's that we use around the home as baby monitors for when the kids nap or go to sleep in the evenings - it's quite convenient that we can just put it on our phones and check up on them. The only difference between this model and ours is the camera quality is better, but I believe the rest is basically the same. Definitely good value and I do recommend them to my mates/family, but there are some short comings I'll point out that I wish I knew before buying the cameras:

    1) You can't watch the stream for more than 5min without it pausing and a notification coming up and asking you if you want to continue watching - this is very annoying for us when we're making lunch or something and just want to be able to hear if our kids wake up and leave the camera on our phones on the benchtop.

    2) You can't stream these cameras on a google hub or android TV. Google says they're capable with google devices, but this isn't true. You can get google to control them (really limited), but you can't actually watch the live stream. I've had better luck with my Alexa devices, but its been a bit choppy. We bought this thinking we could have them streaming on our Google Hub in the kitchen so were disappointed when this didn't work.

    3) There are times that the cameras will lag (could be our WiFi) and instead of reloading to the current time, the stream will pause (without any notification, but you can see the small clock in the top which shows seconds stops) and then 1-2min later will restart from where it left off, meaning our 'live' stream is now 2min behind - have had a few grumpy wake ups due to this.

Outside of these issues - I would highly recommend these cameras though. If you did want an indoor camera for the same reasons that we did, our mates have a Eufy indoor cam and they do everything that I wished our cams would do - but they are Eufy and they had some big privacy issue a few months ago I think.

    • I have some D-Link wifi cams which has the exact same issue #1 & #2 (didn't pay much attention to #3)
I wonder if they are using something similar in the back end

Streaming is pretty much useless unless you are on your phone pressing the continue button every 5 minutes

      • The D-link and Tapo cameras all look the same - maybe owned by the same company and sold under a different brand?

We're accustomed to hitting refresh all the time - too stingy to replace the cameras…..but boy is it annoying….

    • Are they plug in or battery powered? Would be useful to be able to move them sometimes…..

        Plug in

    • My C110 (linked further down the thread) arrived today and I've managed to get it to stream to my Google hub in the kitchen.

It worked first time for me so not sure what made the difference but I did a few things before I tried:

Linked tapo account to Google home (using the tapo app 'third party services' feature

Added the camera to my 'home' and to a room (Google home app)

Named the camera in the tapo app (name carried through to Google home app).

Camera and hub on the same wifi network.

Then I asked the Google hub 'show me the [room] camera' and after a few seconds it started streaming.

      Hopefully that's of some help!

Worth noting that it's listed as "Ultra high definition", which isn't correct. UHD is a standard (3840x2160, or consumer 4K).

This camera's actual resolution is 2304 x 1296 which is slightly above full HD.

There's also the cheaper C110 if you don't need the pan/tilt function https://themarket.com/nz/p/tp-link-tapo-c110-home-security-w…

  • $58.80 Amazon UK via AU + buy 2, save 10%.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Tapo-Rotational-Definition…

    • I've checked that one, it does not have AU plug (seen in Q&A)

  • This camera also works with the ONVIF Scrypted plugin, so you could set it up to stream to HomeKit Secure Video if you had a server/Raspberry Pi. If you’re using Apple products, it avoids a lot of limitations of third party apps.

  • Anyone used them with Milestone / Blue Iris / Ispy etc?

  • Do these cameras continuously record or only 5min recordings?
Can it record to the SD only and/or also to the cloud?
    Any subscription service required?

I'm currently thinking about getting a wyze camera as the eufy are way too expensive

    • Just got this and still learning the functionalities, so far I can setup to record when there is a motion detected, this is on the SD card.

I haven't tried the cloud yet but it has 30-day trial.

Quality is good and thought of getting another one.
