I need a laptop/Chromebook for my 12 year old.
My budget is around $600.
Anyone with computer knowledge have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

$600 is sufficient for a second hand Wndows laptop for school. I've been selling those for years on Trademe. 100% positive feedback. PM me if you're interested.
Thanks for the advice, I found one on Facebook marketplace and hoping they come down in price a little.
Maybe too late but..
https://www.amazon.com.au/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Camera-Arctic-82KU0…If you don't mind second hand, below would be far better than new Chrome book, your kids can use it for up to 5~8 years.
For example this one, 16gb RAM, Screen is a bit small though, but must be quite light.

I got a 2 nd hand near new Chromebook for my son can't complain , for school
I think 1600 $ apple Mac Book air is very good for the price for University
Your budget is decent for a Chrome book but a bit on the low side for a Windows laptop, best to contact the school and ask if they have a preference. My daughter's school require devices to be Chromebooks.
Chrome books have a lightweight OS design that's easy to manage and perfect for students but lack of functions compared to Windows devices.
