    Try looking at two one ways, rather than a single return ticket.

    Eg: AKL to SIN Return: $1150

    But, same dates:
    AKL to SIN: $392
    And SIN to AKL: $547

    Total: $939 return.

      True but this is purely looking at the cost. The flight time for these tickets total to 30+ hours that is as if you had all the time in the world to go to Singapore and back and in this time and age it pays for convenience and I would certainly do that in this case knowing how unpredictable flights are these days.

    For now, those days are gone so this is reasonable. Maybe the old days will come back, but not for a while.

    Try looking at AirNZ or Singapore Air direct - its like double that at least sometimes triple and thats if you can even find a seat which at times are totally sold out .
