A lot of people still want to keep the old landline number, because in most cases you'll lose it if you go naked. IIRC You still need to pay Spark every month if you want to port the number to a VOIP provider, and if you're an occasional landline user with a beefy broadband package it's simply cheaper to stay on landline.
With ATA/Voice ports on your router, any phone becomes a voip phone.
I tried to talk the in-laws out of theirs, and to repackage their mobiles and broadband with other providers, at a saving of hundreds a month, but they weren't interested. Too attached to it.

Haha well my mother in law is pretty switched on when it comes to that stuff, so anyone just passes the phone to her.
