The latest AirAsia sale has over 10 million seats available, and checking prices from NZ I found a) they've got SYD and KL on sale and b) Jetstar seems to be healthily competitive on this route on some dates too!

    Is there something you’d recommend for mid year flights to Thailand, or maybe a good way to stack the stopovers? That route seems to be rarely discounted even off season

      Jetstar often have discounted flights to Thailand from Australia

      I recently travelled to Phuket, my Trans-Tasman flights cost more than my return flights from MEL -> Phuket, sadly

      You can look at VIetJet to SGN, then a cheap flight from there into Thailand? I'd love to see Vietnam enroute.
      Otherwise Scoot/AirAsia to Singapore/KL, then a cheap hop onwards from there.
      Last resort - fly to Manila, then from there to Thailand with Cebu. Not a great airport in Manila, but it's likely cheap.

    Have a cruise booked departing Sydney in December. Any ideas on best ways to find cheap tickets for 28th Dec to SYD and return 1st Jan AKL?

    Can highly recommend KL for a destination in anycase; easy to get around, great food and shopping

    When I was working in KL, found you could easily get to anywhere else in SE or travel to some amazing locations within Malaysia.
    Sadly in 2019, I thought I would not bother with weekend flights despite trips like to Thailand on special for ~NZ$40, as thought I would do it more in 2020.

    That didn't work out, so nice to see these trips back

    AirAsia I have flown a few times. Just do an overnight flight, take your own entertainment and snacks. It really is budget, but keep your eyes open; I know somebody who brought a last minute upgrade to business class on AirAsia for less than economy flight on AirNZ. Still very budget, but at least a decent seat
