One is points. Points can be used towards reward seats (think 'free' seats).
The other is status credits. When you get enough status credits, you move up to Silver, Gold or Platinum status. This entitles you to lounge access, more seat availability, and so on.
If you're not a frequent flyer, you're unlikely to benefit much from status credits as they expire each year. Points would be more useful, just earn at least 1 point a year to prevent them from expiring.
