Any good alternatives to avoid paying the $195 fee?
Or, has anyone had success asking for the fee to be wiped or get bonus airpoints to sign on again?

lol when you try call their bluff and they actually proceed on it. "Woah woah woah… hang on lets just slow down here before cancelling"
actual lmao that was me. like wait what just happened yo…
I really hope less people ask for rentention offers as the more people ask for retention offers, the less benefits we'll get. It's already started happening in America with the platty card holders. For example they've reduced their annual $100 Rakuten coupon to $50 or $20 iirc
worth asking though and let us know. Even if you quit, there are extra bonus to rejoining after later as a new member, so still you are better off than just staying on. Probably mention this fact may allow you to get an retention offer?
TSB mastercard
I went to cancel fees free amex card and got a $500 airpoint dollar rentention just by wanting to cancel.
how?lots of customer representatives have been calling the bluff
I honestly was going to cancel it. All i said was i didnt see the value in the card compared to TSB's new offering.
Maybe they run the numbers. Rewards are much lower on the free card and with corbettjms big spending it was worth it.
Corbettjms Art of the Deal
got only $75 credit for mine.. so tookl that
While this has worked for the past 6+ years, it no longer does. I tried it in September 2022 and they actually proceeded to cancel it (so I had to call back and tell them I made a mistake). lolol
The offers on the card per year + the benefits and Airpoints earning rate more than justify the $195.
