Any Recommendation for a Car Battery Charger/Maintainer

Looking for any advice on buying a Car Battery Charger/Maintainer as I'm a bit sick of the weekend car waking up the entire neighbourhood when the battery dies (it sets off the car alarm for some reason).

I've seen the NOCO branded genius charger and was thinking of getting one, but I would like to hear if anyone can provide any input.
There was a recent Supercheap Birthday Sale, so I'm sure someone picked one up.

Thanks in advance

  • I've seen the other forum post, but it's a bit outdated (2021)

I have always used CTEK chargers for my weekend car and motorcycle. The make permanent connectors too so it's just plug and play if you don't want to use the included alligator clips. The 5A one is the one that I run two of and have had them for years with no issues.

Another vote for CTEK here. I've never had issues with them, which is saying a lot in a world filled with AliExpress knockoffs that claim to condition/maintain but actually end up overcharging cells.

      agree, ctek charger.
i have the permanent connectors on one car, easy to plug in leave overnight.

Repco periodically have it on special.

    I have a ctek too

  • I use Century CC1212-XLi, it works with a variety of battery types if you have multiple vehicles. Probably more on the expensive side, but it works great.

This may or may not be applicable, but if your battery is dieing after a week, signs point to the battery being stuffed and needs replacing.

A good condition battery should be able to be left for 4-6 weeks without being started without issue.

Or, there's a problem with your alarm installation or other electrics in your car that is causing a drain on your battery. Have you had it checked by an auto-sparky ?

In relation to the OP though - CTEK for sure

The battery may be on its last legs But this is not necessarily so. I had a battery that was going flat in a week if the car wasn’t used. After a bit of research I purchased a Calibre 7 stage charger from SuperCheap Auto ( the model I got is no longer sold there ) hooked it up to my battery and let it do its thing. After 12 hours or so the battery was charged and “reconditioned “ ie desulphated and it has been fine ever since - that was 2 years ago. The multistage chargers are great.

  • There's these, mixed reviews though - anyone used them?

I have a CTEK (forgot the model) and it worked OK for a couple of years, then it started to not charge as fast anymore (and it's not the battery's issue). So I just got an Ozito charger from Bunnings and that worked well.

Just purchase this CTEK 12V 5 Amp Battery Charger Value Pack - 40-516, which included the MXS5.0.

Thanks everyone for the CTEK recommendation.
