Damn, they mustnt be selling well at all for apple / (blupoint? Can't remember who is the apple supplier for noels in nz) to discount them.

Doesn't help that it's indistinguishable from last year's model and barely differs from the year before…. and the ones that actually compete at the high end are $2k+.

There's not much more enhance phones these days, you're avg mid range phone suits most people.
Until we get better camera technology, it's gonna be harder.

Most new phones will be touting AI technology for the next 5yrs to improve stuff.

      • That 14 pro is a big jump up on the camera capabilities, but it's taken how long to get there in apple land.

And that's also only of use to those who really want/need that extra capability. For your average pic that's going on facebook or a message to others, you really don't need much and as you say they haven't changed much in a long time. They've been more than capable for many years now.

      • no way, The iphone 15 will have a usb-c/thunderbolt port so its no longer limited to lightning usb 2.0 speeds

        • thunderbolt is optimistic

        • idk about that:

          https://www.gizchina.com/2023/04/28/iphone-15-series-with-us…

Knowing Apple you'll get one or the other on most of the devices and only both on the ultra pro super max ultimate version lol

          • @Huntakillaz: so shady of apple, i will stick to AOSP and sideloading

        • Isn't Thunderbolt an Intel standard? And didn't Apple just drop Intel for Apple Silicon?

My bet is that like sideloading apps, USB-C will only happen with EU-market iPhones, and probably on USB 2.0 speeds (AFAIK Xiaomi still uses USB 2.0 on their type-C ports). Apple makes too much money on accessories.

          • @Avantime: apple silicon has dropped all intel hardware now but intel still certifies the standard.
i wonder if there will be lawsuits in the US after they allow sideloading in the EU.

          • @Avantime: Thunderbolt was developed by Intel and Apple. It's royalty free now so there's not reason Apple wouldn't continue to provide thunderbolt connectivity.

    • The annual changes to iPhones are literally 0. I've just been getting my battery replaced instead of upgrading every 2-3 years.

Just set up a new iPhone 11 for someone, $800 does everything that most people need.

      • Personally, as a phone snob, I wouldn't go to iphone 11 purely because of the screen. 11pro and up absolutely!

Buuuut If i was setting it up for mum or the Ms then I seriously doubt they'd ever tell the difference

    Wish the Pro was discounted!

    • the pros are worth it for the camera quality alone!

      • High refresh rate display too

  • Thanks OP. The iphone 13 (128gb) is also discounted to $1,199.00.

Will be getting my wife a iphone 13 and save $200.

    • No worries. I was just about to update the OP.

  • Thanks OP!

Other half needed an upgrade from her SE 2020 so bit the bullet on the deal. We had some gift vouchers from JB Hifi and they were happy to price match Noel Leeming.
