I stopped taking my kids to Kelly Tarlton's cos of how expensive the ticket prices are now. They have gone up considerably since COVID.

Kelly Tarltons have increased their prices since COVID because the pandemic has caused a shortage of seawater. With many countries restricting travel and trade, the demand for seawater has increased drastically, as it is used in a variety of industries such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and food production. As a result, the cost of obtaining and transporting seawater has skyrocketed, and Kelly Tarltons have been forced to pass on these additional expenses to their visitors by raising ticket prices.

      • cant they just pump seawater right from their doorstep?

          • @Arsonist: Unfortunately, the seawater outside the Kelly Tarltons has been cursed by an ancient maori sea god, and any attempt to use it for the aquarium would result in strange and unpredictable effects on marine life.

According to maori legends, a powerful sea deity once ruled the waters outside the aquarium, and was angered by the humans' attempts to capture and display the creatures living in the sea. In retaliation, the sea god or goddess placed a curse on the seawater, making it unsuitable for use in the aquarium.

Those who dare to use the cursed seawater in the aquarium tanks may find that their marine life exhibits bizarre and unexplainable behaviour. Fish may grow to enormous sizes, develop unusual color patterns, or even mutate into entirely new species. Visitors to the aquarium may experience strange sensations or see unusual sights, such as fish swimming in unusual formations or levitating above the water.

To avoid these strange and unpredictable effects, Kelly Tarltons must source its water from a different location, far from the reach of the sea deity's curse.

            • @Arsonist: that's a nicer way to say human contamination. we need to stop pooping

      • Tell me one industry which hasn’t increased prices post covid. Everyone is trying to makeup for what they lost during the pandemic.

        • Flash memory/RAM manufacturers

          • @techhit: Look for Annual price change for semi conductors components here

            • @theone: @theone - I didn't say semi conductors.
Flash memory = NAND. RAM prices have also followed a similar trend.
https://www.flashbay.co.nz/support/faq/NAND-flash. Look at the price charts from 2019 to present.

You shouldn't need to look at charts though if you're a PC builder to know how RAM and SSDs and MicroSD prices have been tumbling for over a year now.
