Personally I would wait for the 50% or BOGOF deals, particularly as you can't stack the offers if a better one comes along.
25% is definitely a saving if you need a plan right now but it's the lowest discount they have offered.

    • Do you think this is a stealth price rise by not offering the 50% off any more?

      • +1

        Hard to know.
Kogan have been fairly consistent with their mobile deals over the past few years.
The best discounts (50% off or BOGOF) are not usually offered at this time of year. Normally these occur in Aug/Sept or Nov/Dec.

I believe they are trying to jump out of the 50%off mud pool and make a “hunger marketing” offer from 30%off to 25% to push people to buy it asap. My previous 50%off voucher had expired but I moved to WarehouseMobile to wait for the 50%off offer. ps, now there are 5Gbyte bonus data from WarehouseMobile for those who bring their own number in.

          • @cyphei: "5GB Bonus Data Offers:
Offer available for a limited time only. Minimum $5 Top Up applies. New customers joining Warehouse Mobile and porting number only. Data applied within 10 days of pack or combo purchase. Valid for 28 days from date of purchase. Any unused data will rollover for up to 365 days. Data can be used anywhere in NZ. Warehouse Mobile T&Cs apply."

Might as well just buy the $5 Kogan deal and get the 15GB each month (assuming you have a dual SIM phone and this is just a throwaway SIM purely only used for getting mobile data):

            • @NovaAlpha: I am using the starter pack, thanks, the tricky part is that it requires a new email account every time (not only a new phone number with an existing account) which is annoying;) but anyway I reckon it's not the right way they expected, so it's reasonable that they set up such an obstacle.

                @cyphei: you don't need a new email.

Just use the Gmail trick. For example, if your email is [email protected], then just do this:

                [email protected]
                [email protected]
                [email protected]
                [email protected]

and all the emails you receive will still go to your Gmail.

Alternatively, I use a much better method and have been using this for years. Go to the site Bulc.Club and sign up for a free account. Let's say your account is "BlahAccount.Bulc.Club". Then, similar to the Gmail trick, you just append anything you want at the start, so e.g.

                [email protected]
                [email protected]
                [email protected]
                [email protected]

And those emails will go to your Gmail account.

Why is this method superior? Because of many reasons:

                a) Many websites that offer these deals will block certain domains, like Gmail or whatever. They only allow work emails or a Uni email (.ac.nz address) or something like that. However, using the Bulc.Club domain will work most of the time as well.

                b) Based on the above, nobody knows what your real email is. However, using the Gmail trick, people can still easily determine what your real Gmail is and therefore send you spam.

                c) Bulc.Club is backed by a community and so all the spams and blacklisted domains are basically monitored and reported by the community that use this service. There are other features too, but that's the gist of it.

I've already purchased about 10 Kogan SIM cards using this method and they're all beings shipped. Same credit card, same phone number, but different email. Easy.

                • @NovaAlpha: Orz! you rock!

                  • @cyphei: I use bulc.club and it's definitely better than gmail trick.

Another suggestion would be create a separate Gmail account and link that to bulc.club for all this spams. Easy block all of them via bulc if required.

      • I share your view. I guess we won't know until the next Black Friday or EOY sales though for sure.

  • it gets worse

  • Hey team, has anyone switched to them? I am with Vodafone or One NZ which has VoWifi (voice over wifi) which I need for where I live. So I know the Kogan runs on Vodafone/One NZ network but have been unable to confirm if VoWifi works too?
Can anyone tell me please , the Kogan website is … lacking in information.

    • According to this post, wifi calling works
      https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=302…

Is that the same as VoWiFi?

      • +1

Thank you, yes it does cover voice over wifi! Looks like I will swap when it next goes 50% off!

        • You could always test it out with the $5 starter pack first?
It would be a cheap way if you want to be sure before you actually switch.

    • Can confirm. My phone is with kogan (ex vodafone), and I have the wifi calling at the top of my screen right now.

Be aware you cannot text 4 digit numbers.

    • Yes it works. I have Kogan and in wifi it says wifi calling

    • Wifi calling works fine on Kogan . No issues at all. I live 50/50 between NZ and AU and use it in AU instead of roaming to receive calls and to place them where i want a NZ number to appear.

Have even used it on a cruise ship in the past and alsorts of places where Wifi is available.

  • ps, Kogan has an annoying issue that sometimes when you leave WiFi connection, the mobile data won't start until you make a phone call or reboot your phone. It happens quite randomly, it happened twice during the first year I use Kogan, but this year it happened several times a week. My friends who are using Kogan also got this issue. Not sure if anyone else had the same issue.

    • What type of phone you got?,
I dont have any of these issues on my pixel 5,3a

    • never had this issue on a poco x3 phone

    • +1

I had this issue a lot with my xiaomi note 8t - now using a Galaxy note 10+ and have only had the issue once

My solution to it was to use flight mode wait a few seconds then turn flight off

It seems to happen when you have not had reception for a prolonged period of time (I get it when leaving home but not anywhere else so I assume this is the case)

It happens to me on other networks also not just kogan

    • Hasn’t happened to me or my friends/family. Most are on iPhones.

    • I used to get this on iPhone with 2degrees but haven’t at all with Kogan

Seemed to be caused by towers not handing over correctly

    • I have this happen on all Huawei and Xiaomi phones with my household.
