Advice on nappies and wipes?

Hi all, first time posting here.

Could some kind fellow parents shed some light on strategies to buy nappies/wipes affordably?
Where are your go to brands or stores?

On a side note:
Realised how difficult it was to continuously calculate per nappy costs with all the different brands and sizes.
I was wondering if there was a need for parents to have something similar to pricespy but for nappies and wipes?

Thanks

It's not so much what's the cheapest for me but what product we like using. Have bought a bunch of different wipes and nappies in the last three months. My kid has just moved up to size 3 (6-11kg). At the moment, we prefer Huggies Ultra Dry and/or Pampers. We use reusable nappies, so disposables are only for car rides and night sleeps. In terms of baby wipes, we're happy with Babywise and/or Huggies. Now that I know what brands we prefer, I just keep an eye on the price week to week.

Funnily enough, just stocked up on both items in the last few days.

Nappy: Huggies Ultra Dry Crawler 44pk $14.99 x2
Baby wipe: Huggies Baby Wipe 80pk $2.29 x4

  • If you're using reusables (Highly recommended, a decent set should last you right through until they are toilet trained), then these liners make life a hell of a lot easier: https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/babywise-nappy-liners-100-p…

Amazon AU is good for sourcing some bulk packs, I think we got "Mama Koala" but there are a few brands on there that look similar, about $10 a piece, including some inserts. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com.au/ALVABABY-Adjustable-Washable-Reusa…

Some discussion on here about wipes the other day: https://www.cheapies.nz/node/41096 , we use these ones: https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/ministars-baby-wipes-fragra… which are good value, thick, etc. But most of the mentioned products would work well.

Don't forget you can also save by getting op shop clothes, they grow so fast initially they've likely been worn only a handful of times.

    Good luck!

  • I have used babyonline they were very cheap but now they have increased the prices.

The warehouse nappies are good deal they are made in China but are good so are the wipes

  • Sometimes cheapest are not the best. Depending on how baby reacts to different nappy/wipe. So try few of them and see what your preference is. From there find the deals.

My goto is Rascals from pns/nw. And huggies wipes, just stocked them up.

Huggies n pampers are very comparable, but are used to rascals now. Almost time for potty training so hopefully not long..

  • Have tried several brands.

But now only go for Pam's nappies for all day long
And for night time: Huggies ultra dry.

As for wipes the babywise ones are better value for money and if sale is on then go baby wipes are good too

We did a hybrid of reusables (buying a bulk pack of second hand ones isn't as gross as it might seem as all they will need is sanitising on purchase) and disposables. For buying disposables we bought bulk Dryups from Babyonline but recommend buying a smaller pack to start as they won't suit all children, my kids used different brands to each other as their bodies were so different.
For wipes we used cloths at home, there are purpose-built reusable cloth wipes but any face cloth will do - just make sure you have a particular colour dedicated to wipes so there's no confusion! You'll save so much not using wipes and so much less landfill rubbish too. Dunk in warm water, wipe and then rinse, squeeze and chuck in the nappy bucket :)

If you can stomach not using the (plastic containing) wipes you will be an early adopter and can humble brag at the other parents. UK is banning them from next year. Some rumblings about it here, so I guess it will happen here eventually also. We tried a few homemade ones where you cut a paper towel roll in half and soak in a mix of oil, soap and water then store in a container. Recipes online. Hmmmm kinda worked but a bit of messing around making them. Would try washable cloths if I had my time over. It's definitely a money and environmental saving at home but that leaves the problem of what you are going to use when out and about of course.

  • For wipes we just use paper towels and a thermos flask (for that luxury warm feeling). Just wet it a bit and then wipe and store in the nappy bag until we get home. If we’re at home it goes into the bin.

If there is no poop, we just use a face cloths from the warehouse. Lasts ages and aren’t too expensive.

Bubs is getting a bit older now and we just use toilet paper and flush it with his poop.
