Even at the discounted price, $449 for a smart watch that doesn't have a good ecosystem is just a waste of money imo. And no way the watch is even worth $850. Might as well get a good phone at that point.

    • The go with smart watches imo should be that they should be powerful enough to not need to be replaced particularly frequently… but obviously thats not the case.

Although, the ms has an apple watch S4 that I bought for her at xmas maybe 4 years ago and it still is getting software updates and good battery life and is still decently fast (although what's fast on a watch? I dont think I ever used an app when I had mine except the now playing / tracking stuff)

The ecosystem isn't a problem now IMO.
Samsung Watch 4 and newer all use the Android Wear OS/ecosystem. Not the proprietory Samsung (Tizen OS?) the Watch
3 and older used if that's your concern.

  • Thanks for posting. My dad has been wanting a watch for awhile so he’s off to ring my sister at spark and get one sorted

    • It's a great watch, had one for a few months. Unfortunately, I am in the Apple ecosystem which is a bit like a cult. I have an oppo phone and as any other modern android phone also works with Samsung watch unlike Apple Watch. The pro has way better battery life than my $1100 stainless steel Apple Watch LTE and better charging flexibility (you can only use an Apple Watch charger) the only negative is conductivity on Wi-Fi where the Apple Watch is more reliable at receiving texts and phone calls over Wi-Fi when you leave your phone out of Bluetooth range at home. The only negative for me with the Apple Watch, there's no Google assistant and wireless charging.

      • Did you mean WiFi or Cellular connection?

No I was talking about around the home network where both watches switch to Wi-Fi when their Bluetooth is out of range of there tethered mobile phone. I am on 2° so no eSIM for watches yet.
