Mt Ruapehu Season Pass (Access to both Tūroa & Whakapapa): Adult Anytime $599, Youth/Super Anytime $299 @ Mt Ruapehu

140

Mt Ruapehu are offering a sale on season passes before they go up in price in two weeks. I can't find the full price for this year, but last year it was $949 so likely to be around the same - I'll update if I find it.

Season passes cover both sides (Whakapapa and Tūroa), and there are options for weekday only and insurance/change-of-mind. Season passes also give discounts at the shops/cafes, and 50% off buddy passes (day passes for your mates you drag along).

Side note: For those interested in the current RAL situation, they have guaranteed that season passes will remain valid for the entire season even if a sale happens. There is a good chance that Whakapapa and Tūroa will become separate businesses with MUCH higher season pass prices (e.g. the current preferred Tūroa bidder wants to charge $1299 for a season pass that can only be used on their field).

These shall remain valid for the season regardless on how the RAL ownership/restructure/liquidation unfolds

  • i wouldn't buy these especially how unpredictable ruapehu has been.

Unpredictable in terms of snow/weather, or as a company?

  • Arguably $350 for mid-week season pass is a better deal - can't argue with three days payback. You also get buddy passes making it very economical for a family.

But even at that price I can't bring myself to commit to Ruapehu skiing. Between horrible experience during COVID season, the ever worsening lifts situation and now financial ruin I have zero confidence in RAL being able to provide acceptable service.
I take no enjoyment in saying this and really feel for the businesses that depend on the ski field. I have been skiing Whakapapa for 20 years and it's been getting worse and worse. I'm taking my money to QT nowadays.

    • I guess that sentiment is contributing to why people are taking 3.5 hours to get up remarks on a weekday morning during school holidays. ;P

That is a great price for a season pass.
