This is PB. Formally known as Prince Bartholomew. They say he is the holder of great deals and packs quite a large SSD. This weekend he appears to be proudly sharing 2544 products at a discounted price in a celebration of a grand old Matariki weekend.

        This.

And just like that, as mysteriously as he had arrived, he was gone

  • G.SKILL Ripjaws 32GB (2x16gb) DDR4 3600MHz CL18

$129.66 (usually $148.99). Lowest ever was $123.97 which was a few weeks ago when PBtech was taking preorders and said they would ship them in 2 months time, which actually turned out to not be preorders as they had them in stock within a week. Gutted I missed out on that price.

I'd suggest looking at the Amazon AU prices if you think $130 is good for 32GB 3600CL18.

      • Not really sure what you're trying to imply tbh. I'd suggest backing that up with a link if you think that's not a good deal.

The same RAM costs $135.45NZD (which is a direct exchange rate and not necessarily what you'd get from your bank, so it's probably + $1-$5) from Amazon AU which includes a $10 discount when you purchase from amazon AU for the first time (so it's actual price is still more):
        https://www.amazon.com.au/G-Skill-Ripjaws-32GB-3600MHz-Memor…

I've been watching RAM prices extensively for the last month+

        • Maybe this

          • @ace310: That's CL16 and significantly more expensive. Also posted on 10/02/2023.

Can't edit my above comment but also want to make note that even if you find RAM cheaper using overseas websites, you're probably only saving yourself $5-$15 for the same speed/timings which is hardly worth it if you (on the rare occasion) have any issues.
DDR4 is on the way out, and if anyone was ever caught out trying to get DDR3 when DDR4 was taking over, you'll understand waiting too long for cheap deals may end up costing you more later on!

        • I too would be keen for a link on some good amazon options.

I've got 16GB in both my gaming PC and home server. Need an extra 16 for the server, but its a good chance go get 32GB fast memory for the gaming PC and downgrade the old RAM to the server (2 birds, 1 stone)

          • @Tmurder91: This is the cheapest:best 3600MHz option but you need prime to take advantage of the price and then it's only as good of a deal as the PBtech but for the price most people would prefer the g.Skill.

            https://www.amazon.com.au/Corsair-Vengeance-PC4-28800-Deskto…

Alternatively, if you want a 16gb (2x8gb) 3200Mhz CL16 kit to add to your current kit, I'll be selling mine!

            • @chunder: I’m in Auckland so DM me the details and an offer when the time comes if you are too

          https://www.amazon.com.au/G-Skill-RipJaws-PC4-32000-CL18-22-…

4000CL18 for close to the same price (it recently jumped by $10 or so, so fair enough) - just downclock to 3600 or 3800 if you're running Zen3 and tighten the timings.

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Patriot-2x16GB-3600MHz-PC4-28800-M…

Equivalent spec, cheaper (and even cheaper if you pretend to be an Aussie and switch at checkout).

          • -1

@spren: The 4000MHz isn't 3600MHz though, not all motherboards even support 4000MHz so I'm not sure why you're suggesting that memory. It's also about $148nzd landed after bank exchange fees which further just befuddles me why it's being compared to 3600MHz $129 memory.

$125.21nzd + your bank exchange fees for the Patriot. So saving less than $5 to order from overseas for memory that isn't considered to be the same level as the g.Skill.

Yeah not really the deals you've tried to imply can be had.

            • -1

              @chunder:

not all motherboards even support 4000MHz

That's not how this works lmao

If you're running Zen 3, your Infinity Fabric clock is what dictates your max RAM speed (assuming your particular mobo can handle the increased voltages, but if it can't then good luck running XMP in the first place). As long as IF on the CPU can go 1:1 with your RAM speed, you can clock as high as you want.

If you've lost the silicon lottery, just downclock the 4000 and tighten the timings - you can get 3800cl16 or 3600cl16 no sweat, possibly even 3600cl14 if you have a really good bin and know how to OC the subtimings.

If you're on Intel, you either can't OC or you can (simplified, but that's pretty much how it works). You've stated in this thread that you want to OC (which is what XMP is, since you're not looking at SPD-edited RAM anyway).

I get that you've been watching RAM prices for months, so you're invested in this or whatever, but it sounds like you don't really understand how RAM actually works.

memory that isn't considered to be the same level as the g.Skill

I mean, it's all dual rank Hynix these days; good luck finding Micron E with any reliability (not that Micron E OCs that much better anyway; I think Hynix might actually be more stable at XMP speeds).

Just because you 'don't consider [it] to be the same level' doesn't mean it isn't.

Yeah not really the deals you've tried to imply can be had.

I'm not really implying anything; I'm just stating it. It's not my fault you disagree with me.

              • -1

@spren: lol imagine suggesting someone pay extra for memory just to downclock it instead of getting the memory they can actually use at a decent price.

It's not that I disagree, it's that you're wrong. You said:

I'd suggest looking at the Amazon AU prices if you think $130 is good for 32GB 3600CL18.

And then proceeded to give a link to memory that has to be ordered from overseas, that's no better, and for a mere $4 less as if that was "good".

                bye.

                • @chunder: ??? either you think $130 is good for 32GB 3600CL18, in which case I have a better deal, or you don't think $126 for 32GB 3600CL18 is good, in which case your deal is even more mediocre.

                  This is incoherent.

        • That's 64GB @ 3000

Maybe they were referring to the Vengeance RAM which is 32gb @ 3600Mhz CL18, but it's also a prime day deal so no use if you're not already paying the prime fees or can't get a free prime trial. Plus, that RAM is less realiable than the G.Skill stuff recently;y based on my research. Still good for most cases, but personally I'm going to be overclocking my memory so I wanted something that was bought locally and more reliable.

  • This NVME is quite a good one, it reviews really well. From memory I think it's really power efficient.

  • the case in the post comes with no fans, if you want the case with + 3 RGB fans get this one
    https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CHADPC0028/DEEPCOOL-MATREXX…

    • Yeah I saw that, if its for personal use, you're better off getting the case without fans and getting the fans/Cooling you want.

This one comes with 3 led (no rgb/argb) fans that aren't that great from the reviews i've seen

      • oops LED yes.
i built 2 PCs for my kids using this case and so far so good so its a + from me

        • Yeah $20 more for 3 led fans is not bad if you're going low/mid gear
In the $0-$100 range it seems to be one of the best case model available, every other one I've seen has to many down sides/bad design compared to this.

    • Also this other deepcool case for the same price - supports atx/matx/itx while the matrexx is only matx/itx, also the fans are pwn (variable speed), while the matrexx ones use molex connectors (set speed).

  • Can anyone recommend SSD enclosure?

  • I was looking to add an 1TB or 2TB ssd to my lenovo laptop. The laptop has an nvme ssd and an empty space for 2.5" ssd.
Considering the price of 2.5" ssd are closer to this Adata nvme in this deal, is it worth to buy this and replace the smaller capacity in the laptop?
Is there something else I need to look for?

    • If it is a gaming laptop upgrading the capacity will be more beneficial than using a sata ssd, if its just for office work stuff then using either is fine as you're unlikely to saturate the bandwidth.

      • Thank you. It's not a gaming laptop. Just doing some photo editing stuff.
        This 2TB ssd is $159 - https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/HDDSAM60320/Samsung-870-QVO…
Just wondering if it's worth to pay extra $20 and buy the Adata in this deal or if there is any other benefit to Samsung 870QVO

        • Nvme will be faster in opening and closing lots of photo/video files and transferring so definitely yes, and for video scrubbing you definitely want Nvme

  • How do I get the free shipping?

    • Need a code. None available on Cheapies at the moment.
