WOF AND REGO RENEWAL

if someone knows the way out.

The Rego expires on 25/7, tried to renew another 12 months, said WOF not renewed. But WOF expires on 10/8, still 3 wks to go.
According to authority, the car cant be used on road unless heading to workshop, I am losing my car for 3 wks in-between.
A new car wof lasts 12M.

I don't recall I had this problem in the past.
Somehow I would come into the same situation next year. As Rego starts from the last expiry date and WOF starts from an inspection date.

Has the rule changed if someone can shed some lights? like your Wof must be a month or longer in order to buy a rego.
I know expired WOF cannot purchase a rego till car is inspected.

Any suggestions here.

Have you asked nzta to verify when your wof is listed as expiring?
Sticker Vs system may not match, could be a keying in error at wof station when it was loaded.

i think @icecold is on the money here. Check what NZTA says here: https://transact.nzta.govt.nz/transactions/CheckExpiry/entry - and if it matches, then call NZTA - as long as WoF is valid you should be able to renew your rego.

This happened to me; keying error meant the WoF update was applied to a rego one digit different from mine. Mechanic was able to fix it up with no problem once I raised it.

    • I thought it could be a keying error in the first place. then they confirmed to me the same date as it on sticker. REGO n WOF, 3 wks apart

      • Is it possible they or you made a mistake and forgot to check the year? Was wondering what could have happened here since it doesn't sound like you need anything more than a valid WoF to renew registration. Suddenly occurred to me, if you renewed your WoF on the day or up to 14 days before your WoF might have the exact same day and month but different year. Easy to check the date & make a mistake with the year if you are sure it's renewed or just not thinking about the year properly. But could be a problem like ABCDEFG mentioned or some other situation where they just didn't renew you WoF in the system rather than renewing it but the wrong date so it actually expired same time last year.

  • Have you tried to put less than 12 months rego on?

  • If its of any consolation, its my understanding that a WOF can be 2 weeks post dated from the inspection (assuming that you had at least 2 weeks left on the old WOF). https://www.hometune.co.nz/knowledge-base/wof-regulations

I'm still surprised that you can't renew the rego. Let us know if you find out that the rules have changed.

    • Yes although you might want to check your place actually does this properly and ask them to fix it if they don't. From my experience plenty of places just put today's date. This has a minor advantage to them assuming you come back next time (since your WoF slowly gets sooner and sooner) but realistically it's only a small one, even if you tend to do a service with them at the same time. I think it's often more just a matter of not bothering to check, easier to just fill in the current date.

  • I think at some stage you did your wof late and it suppose to be done every july. If WOFs are done on time everytime it should have the same expiry date as your rego. I would just get the WOF done and renew rego.
