  • Dam if this was chch I would be all over this

    • ha, I would say 60 to 70% of the time these kind of deals are either on chch or whakatane, for once we get it here. But for real, couldnt you use the price match at the wharehouse over there?

  • (Is there no indication of how long PNS will be running this super special ?).

    • +1

None that I could see. Best bet with all Cheapies deals… Jump first, think later.

  • Insane how cheese could ever be that expensive considering it's manufactured here!?

  • My local The Warehouse store (Hillcrest) only sells Mainland 700g blocks.

    • +1

yep i commented on this on another thread, the warehouse only has the 700g blocks even though the website says 1kg

      • I cant find either 1kg or 700g blocks online @ the warehouse

        • They fluctuate between showing them online and not. You can't ever purchase the cheese (or 2 litre milk, or butter, or bread) online. In-store purchases only.
Hopefully they change this one day. It would definitely help with sales.

  • The price of cheese seems to have really come down - a year or so ago, you struggled to find it for less than $15 per kg even on special.

A special of $6.99 per kg would have been a great price even four or five years ago.

    • probably exporting it hard post pandemic and leaving very few here, so increase prices to reduce demand.

      • You would expect them to maximise their returns to the 'factory gate' (ex works), so this doesn't really make sense to me - prices at that point should be essentially equal, at least over the medium to longer term over a timeframe in which contracts will adjust.

Goodman Fielder is exiting the cheese market (as well as some yoghurt lines soon), this will be them selling off their remaining stock at a cheap price to the store.

      • That could definitely explain it.

I had hoped it was a shift in the market, but by the sounds of it, just a temporary adjustment while they complete their exit, after which, you would expect prices to rise - have to wait and see how much though.

    • I think North Island or at least Auckland you could get $10/kg or less for most of last year. Depending on the store and what period, PAK'nSAVE put either Pams or Eclipse 1kg cheese blocks on their price rollback or lockdown or whatever they called it (last years prices now or something https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2022/05/foodstuffs-redu… ) and kept it on. I think the price went up a bit it might have started at $9.49 or even $8.99 and ended up at $9.99 but I think was always under $10. (The Newshub link suggests it was $9.99 but I'm sure it started less in some West Auckland stores, maybe it was the average price for that specific store rather than Foodstuffs in general.) I don't think all stores had all 3 of Mild, Edam, Colby but I think most stores might have had at least one? There was a brief period before it went on lockdown where it was more but don't think it was that long since IIRC it was quite a rapid rise.

$6.99 is a price that I haven't seen in quite a few years though.

  • Looks like they’re all gone - or at least not showing any more on the PnS Silverdale site.

    • I shopped instore last night and there was still some in store.

  • Back up on the website

  • The reason for this discount because the cheese is almost expired. Normally you can store for a year. Just a week or two left.
