Must have seen that reddit post roasting them for charging $5.

  • Got some from countdown lambton Quay

  • Went to Bridge Street, Hamilton and got some this morning before 8 😊 the stand at the front still had $3 but down the aisle their digital price tags said $1.99 👍

  • Has anyone tried scanning more than 4 in one transaction? Wonder if it’d work.

    • Wonder if it's just an online thing. Several Cheapos said that there was no such limit with the Bluebird chips when purchased in-store.

      • Interesting. My local store had a few signs up stating max 4pp for the bluebird chips.

        • Yep same. Was in Countdown ChCh airport.

Nope doesn’t work, went through self checkout at Meadowbank and it automatically scans the fifth item at $5.

Dam since when was the normal price of Cadbury blocks $5

    • about 3 weeks ago was when pretty much all cadbury items jumped in in price, the blocks went up a dollar and the multipacks went up between 50c and a dollar.

Are you able to comment on what we can expect for these Daily Deals for the rest of the week? Just so that if there is anything on my essentials to-buy list, then I'd know to hold off until the deal comes. It does seem very "snack" themed so far though…

Yep, I can help with what I think is coming… Don't hold me accountable if there is a smidge or two that aren't 100% correct. Also I don't know the order of promo dates or the pricing…
          - Oak spaghetti and baked beans cans 420g
          - Griffins Toffee Pops Biscuits 200g
          - Beer and chips… Speights summit x24 330ml bottles cartons (standard and ultra low carb) and bluebird 150g chips

          • @wowbigdeal: Thank you! I did some what expect the remaining deals to all be relatively well known brands given that we got Bluebird and Cadbury the first two days, so these definitely seem likely options. Good to know it's not all just snacks this week.

I went in not long ago tried to get 5 blocks at counter as no self checkout here in Waipukurau and the lady said its limit of 4 (did have a sign out stating limit of 4) and she said id be charged normal retail price for the 5th block so i only ended up getting 4 blocks, I may go back in this afternoon to get another 4.

  • Any actual palatable cadbury flavors one would recommend?

    • I'm always partial to the Black Forest, Popping Candy one is decent too. The dark chocolate is ok, good for baking with.

PNS here in Palmy has dropped theirs down to $1.79, limit 3 per person per day.

    • Yup and yesterday they had the Bluebird chips for $0.89 (limit 3) as well. I needed about a dozen chips for a wedding anniversary party so I thought I was being sneaky and smart by using the self-checkouts, and spacing my visits apart so that the Countdown staff wouldn't notice but I would have wasted far less time as well as a few cents by also going next door to the Pak'n'Save instead!

Interestingly, the Pak'n'Save I went to (Palmerston North) didn't really bother promoting the $1.79 Cadbury bars. There were those big (360g?) blocks out in the front right where you first walk in, $5 Whittaker blocks in the aisle of value, and some kind of odd looking chocolate things near the middle of the shop but the $1.79 bars were just in their usual place with only those small electronic price tags and those little plastic things that they put around on almost every tag to indicate the special price.

Dear God/Gods and/or anyone else who can help me (e.g. members of super-intelligent alien civilizations): The next time I wake up, please change my physical form to that of Finn McMillan formerly of South New Brighton at 8 years old and keep it that way forever. I am so sick of this chubby Asian man body! Thank you! - Chaul Jhin Kim (a.k.a. A Desperate Soul).

Countdown on the other hand had two big displays - one where people first walk in and the other next to the entrance to the self check outs. Maybe they didn't want to draw too much attention and thus sell too much of them but also didn't want to lose their price-savvy customers who check prices before shopping? I can't imagine selling these at this low of a price would be profitable.

  • Got nine blocks at self checkout in new plymouth. I assumed the limit would only apply if buying more than four of one flavour and was right. Scanned 5 all scanned at $1.99 so went and got another 4 and completed checkout paying $17.91 for nine blocks in one transaction.
