Eufy Cost Differences

Not really a specific deal so thought better as a forum post.

I'd been eyeing up Eufy cameras / system for a while and was staggered at how much cheaper they were through AliExpress than retailers here.

Suffice to say, 10 days after ordering from Eufy's official Aliexpress store, I now have a Homebase 3 and 2 internal pan & tilt cameras set up. Total cost 296.39 before the 5% KiwiWallet cashback

Equivalent here using todays PB Tech price is $626. The Ali prices do seem to fluctuate too, if I ordered today it would cost $503, so worth watching for a low price before pulling the trigger.

Will be adding some external cameras and potentially motion and door sensors too, moving away from Smartthings, so expect AliExpress will see a few more dollars from me.

  • Thanks that is good to know, I'll keep an eye out for a similar deal! :)

Yes, Aliexpress is cheapest most of the time for Eufy. I have bought couple of indoor cams from there. Just saw homebase 3 last week on sale for ~$145 shipped which is almost 50% off what you pay in NZ/AU.

    • What do you do for power for the homebase?

      • Just get $2 adapter as the power adapter is 110-240v anyways. Heck just ask seller on AliExpress and they will add it to the order most of the time.

  • +1

I'm interested too as wanting to setup home's security replacing the xiaomi camera that's now moved to subscription model.

Can you share what do I need? The homebase + few cameras?

    • Yep, thats all Ive started with. There are a few things to be aware of though, for the indoor cams it seems you cant record continuously on the hombase at 2k res and they dont (currently) support the advanced homebase AI feature. No homekit support for the hombase 3 yet either (again currently), which the v2 did have. I gather Eufy is quite good at making promises and not delivering so I expect some chop going forward.

Compared to the couple Smartthings indoor cams I had before, which only recorded short clips in the cloud, available for 24 hours, without a subscription, I'm happy so far. Especially at the price point paid.

  • Im glad i havent bought eufy cameras yet, now i know where i will be buying them from

It does make me wonder what other brands have an official store through aliexpress because I reckon there may be some other stores which give better prices than what we get from nz retailers

  • I have the 2k floodlight camera which has been decent. Not sure it connects to homebase 3, ive read conflicting reports, which has been putting me off. Didnt know they had an odficial Ax store, ive been tracking on Amazon for a bit but at $300 id probably take a punt

    • Correct, I have been holding off on homebase 3 for the very same reason. Was very close to buying it from Aliexpress last week.

But unless Eufy delivers the promise of compatibility I am not getting it. Here is the timeline. They are well known for promising things and not delivering.

  • Yes, I buy quite a few through Ali. Some points to note.

    1. They don't come with NZ/AU mains plugs. So you will need to source either an alternative PSU or use an adapter. Using an adapter is not ideal. It is also illegal to sell or resell items within NZ without a NZ certified power supply.

    2. Their packaging has been better lately, but these are never double boxed. You usually get some sort of bubble wrap type protection, then into a plastic courier bag. Can lead to squashed product boxes if that concerns you.

    3. Price fluctuates wildly just about every day. So keep your eye on the product you want. 50% off seems to be a maximum, but sometimes they add coupons on top of that and the "base price" changes as well. So 44% off can be better than 50% off….

Homebase 3 is an amazing thing. You can store upto 16tb, yes 16TB of data by sliding in a new hdd. That would give you years??? of storage. Likewise the new eufy cam 3 with it's inbuilt solar panel and 4k resolution is a real range leading camera.

    • Regarding your mains plugs, I believe that's only for homebase? Wired cams like indoor pan & tilt require 5v/1a standard usbc input which means you can use your regular mobile charger. Wireless don't need any plugs for use. Only for charging if not solar which has again same usb c/microusb port so same charger works.

So I don't see anything illegal here except homebase psu, which I don't know the input of so can be easily replaced with NZ equivalent.

    • Apple sells the iphone without any power supply now. These standalone cameras potentially could just be sold by Eufy without a power supply in the same way, so people then just need to use or buy a normal USB power supply for it.
The standalone usb powered cameras also need a micro SD card, and is someone breaks in and steals the camera, they are also stealing the recording.

  • They however don't come with NZ plugs. Also some of the things aren't cheaper.

  • I was about to get the eufy 2K Pan & Tilt for $60. I was confirming with my family and an hour later, it's $70. The price really fluctuates.
But still, I got a couple of these for $120 in NZ.
Since I am not in a hurry, I guess I will just wait till they drop it back down to $60.

    • +1

Yep, $35.50USD, equivilent to $60NZD, is what I paid a couple weeks ago (defaults to USD payment when using an AMEX card apparently)

      • Not sure on how much charges/coversion rates you pay with Amex as I don't have one. But wise has one of the best rates out there if paying in USD or AUD compared to any visa/mastercard from NZ banks

        • It’s weird, it’s a NZ issued Amex but Ali seems to default to charge in USD anyway. I always look to funnel what spending I can through Amex just for the points but have recently got a Dosh card which, with 1% cash back, may be a better option

          • @Madao: You need to set currency to nzd. Does aliexpress shows price in usd or nzd to you?

I have dosh as well and tried once to see the conversion charge and I think it was higher than 1.5% so overall if spending above $50 wise was cheaper to me. Again I did only once and I might have my calculations off. But I felt wise has always been very close to lowest. Also I don't allow aliexpress to do any conversions as they charge for itas well. So USD payment is good

            • @ace310: Everything shows in NZD until I go through the checkout process and choose the Amex payment method

              • +1

@Madao: Buy in USD to avoid aliexpress conversion charges.

    • +1

I just ought the pan & tilt for $50nzd including tax and shipping. You need to get the aliexpress ap and check under super deals. The price will be more expensive on the Eufy home page.

      • I just did exactly that but still shows $66.52 NZD
        Still, better than $69.96 otherwise
I will wait for the next $50 lol

      • Looks like some more super deals up. Got a pan and tilt indoor for $47.50 and a s330 for $210, tax and delivery included. Looks to be good prices on the door + motion sensors and the keypad too

        • Some codes to try for if you haven't already.

      • The 3c (4k no solar) is $157 + gst now. I guess for the next few minutes. These super specials are so variable.

        • Crazy aye, yesterday door and motion sensors were $26.12 and S220 camera was $167.58, both + GST with free shipping.

Today motion sensor showing $35.19 but S220 camera is down even more to $113.46.

          • @Madao: I've managed to nab one of $113 S220! Next is play with it before perhaps decide to grab homebase 3 and few more cameras.

Probably worth checking everyday on the superdeal page ay?

            • @spam: Saw the Homebase 3 for, I think, $131 yesterday. Def best price I've seen, I think I paid about $160ish when I started this post.

              • @Madao: $131 USD or NZD? I saw it at $96USD

                • @ace310: US$87 right now: https://ibb.co/m5NJMpL but I think that is only for 1st time user (welcome deal)

                • @ace310: It was $131 NZD on the super special product page, so granted plus tax. I didnt go through the checkout process to see the final total, which is when it switches to USD for me with my Amex payment method.

        • OK, getting silly now, just got a alarm keypad for $39.97 NZD including tax & delivery.

PB Tech is knocking them out at $109.

        • +3

The super-super specials seem to be 61% off the aliexpress price. These pop in and out for very short periods of time.
          47% - 52% specials are more stable.

Best to check regularly and snap up items you want when they hit 61%

        • Got the homebase and 2 solar cams for $578.
48% off, then $17 spend and save, $3 coins, $34 store coupon, $69 coupon

  • Any good deals for an additional outdoor camera? I really want to add a 3rd camera to my setup to try catch who is letting their dog crap on the grass out the front and not pick it up… got a feeling I know who but I need some evidence.

    • their good sale has just ended for many of the items, id say its worth waiting as of now. I use aliexpress price trackers to see when the price gets low

      • Thanks. How exactly do you do that?

      • Do price trackers factor in coupons/discount?

    • +1

They had the 2c for $97, 3c for $150 and s330 for $185 this morning. Also the indoor mini for $50. They are my new benchmark lowest prices seen

      • +1

To add, these were the excluding tax prices

      • What's the lowest price you've seen for the eufyCam 3 two-cam kit (HomeBase 3 + 2 Solar Cams)?

        • From memory I've seen it go to around $570 delivered (inc. Gst). Not sure if it drops below this price

  • Can anyone link a nz power plug to get for homebase 3?

  • +1

So thought I'd add a summary of purchases so far. Probably could have achieved a bit less if I'd known about the SuperDeals from the get go that debo highlighted above.

These are in USD and pre tax. NZD below

    2x Indoor Pan & Tilt 2k cams = $35.50 each
    1x Indoor Pan & Tilt 2k cam = $24.35
    1x S330 4k solar external cam = $108.59
    1x Keypad = $19.73
    1x Homebase 3 = $93.03
    2x S330 silicone housing = $5.34

    Total USD$322.10

Looking at what hit my credit card all up its NZD615.62. All delivered now apart from the silicone housings

Ill be looking for another S330, a couple motion sensors and a couple door sensors next. I see they've just launched some new products today too, but the only one Ive seen on Ali so far is the new indoor cam at crazy NZD$280 money. No thanks.

    • Last week had good coupons/discounts. I ordered the 2x S330 cams and Homebase 3 set for $332.87USD delivered including tax.

      It was $362.02 - $20 store coupon - $10 spend and save - $40 promo code - $2.57 coins + $43.42 tax.

      • So about NZD$560. You'd be lucky to get that for just under a grand in NZ from what I've seen, mostly around the $1100 mark.

I've been wary about spending big on Ali before now but I think/hope, as long as from an official manufacturers store, you should be OK. I guess with modern quality electronics goods the odds of having something dead on arrival are probably lower than risk of it getting lost in the post on the way here.

        • +1

Yeah it was $571 on my credit card. That set is currently $985 at pbtech but last week the cheapest I could find was like $1049. I was really weary ordering off Aliexpress and I wanted the warranty but seeing the comments on here and with the price difference I thought I'd give it a go.

    • Seems like some prices are better than what you have listed. Like homebase 3 is $89 pre-tax.

Pan n tilt is $29 pre tax

  • Can anyone recommend a ssd/hdd for the homebase 3?

I was looking at the Crucial MX500 1TB 2.5" Internal SSD from pbtech for $95. https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/HDDCRU30600/Crucial-MX500-1…

    Is 1TB overkill for 3 camera's and a doorbell camera? 500GB is $55.

    • Not pulled the trigger but I've been looking at the Samsung EVO drives. Mighty Ape had better pricing than PB Tech when I looked earlier this week, and I've got an Amex discount to use there within the next couple days ($20 back off $80 spend)

    • Im just going to use a 512gb drive ive got lying around. Doubt i will need to go back too far after an event

    • As an update I went with a 1TB Samsung EVO drive today. $119 from PB Tech

As a word of warning, if you want to do continuous recording you wont get that with the battery / solar outdoor cams. For the indoor cams you can but only if you have the homebase on ethernet, as I've learnt today, not wifi.

      • This has been in the documents fyi. In general no battery powered camera from any company would do continuous recording. Battery won't last more than a day in that case.

  • +1

Eufy Ali store has sale from 11th -13th. Apparently saying sale of the year, whatever that means. But in case anyone is still looking might wanna have a look for good deals. Don't forget to collect coupons and cashback.

    • +1

Looks like it's starting tomorrow. Can probably add to your cart first and purchase tomorrow (or tonight).

      • +1

        It's probably 8-9pm tonight

  • +1

Grabbed s340 solocam solar for Usd$155 shipped. Pretty good deal. It popped up on my daily 50% off deals page

    • It's a shame they don't have the E340.

      • +1

E340 Showing $160.83USD shipped after coupons.

Tip: Keep e340 in your cart and keep visiting store as well as product page for couple of days and they might end up on your superdeals feed.

        • ah nah, is that the doorbell you are seeing? Im referring to this

          https://us.eufy.com/products/t8425121

          • @moona: Damn eufy with there crappy names. That floodlight is not available on Aliexpress yet.

            Edit: Sorry. I ordered S340 not E340.

    • Managed to get two motion and one door sensor yesterday for $22.50 each, tax and delivery inc.

Was looking for another S330 but prices not as low as i picked one up previously. Although I must say the motion detection hasnt been as good as I had expected.

Tempted by the new S340 PTZ (outdoor cam), at the right price.

      • I assume you have had a fiddle with the motion detection sensitivity and also turned on all the types of motion you want notified? Took me a while to work out turning on "all other motion" which was off by default helped a lot if you want to get more notification of absolutely everything.

        • Yea, have whacked the sensitivity all the way up and have all the motion options ticked. It's mounted 9ft up, which I know is at the upper height they recommend, and level but while it picks up people on my front lawn it wont pick people walking on the pavement or cars in the road. I live in a new build, not exactly a huge front lawn, so had expected better. I could try mounting it lower but the Mrs wont want me to keep punching holes in the brickwork and mounted too low it will just be easy to pinch.

The indoor cam pointing out the front window detects everything even from behind the glass. I've been told thats the difference between a powered and battery cam, as its always scanning for movement, but I'm not sure I buy that.

The "AI' also doesn't seem to be picking me up as a known face or others and flagging them as randoms.

Oh well, I expected some chop as Eufy isnt all great reviews.

      • It really depends on how the camera is setup and what the settings are. Definitely you will have to play around to get most out of it. change sensitivity and type of detection based on what you are missing in terms of detection.

        Some things to remember:

        • Don't point it towards the road if possible. lights from the cars in night will mess up the detection.
        • Try to avoid trees from the zone specified. They cast shadows sometimes in shape of human which will be false-positive. I really had trouble finding this out for a month. Only happened in night for me.
        • Detection is good from the side view rather then moving towards it.
        • If having problems in night disable color vision and switch to IR and see if that helps.

Have ordered S340, so will see how good it is compared to my current S40 & 2k floodlight. Newer is going to replace S40 in front of the house and S40 will go in my backyard.

  • Can someone confirm that this model "eufy Security eufyCam E330 (Professional) 4K Outdoor Security Camera System 24/7 Recording Plug-in Wi-Fi NVR Face Recognition AI" is available to purchase for you? It has been on aliexpress for a while but when I mouse over buy now it is greyed out and can't purchase it.

    • +1

Can add to the cart, but can't checkout in app. It's greyed out, maybe not in stock. Try to message the seller and ask.

  • Aliexpress is again having sale, got homebase 3 with 2 x cam kit plus doorbell for NZD 642

    • Currently battling a warrenty claim with ali, bright white 3 second fade at start of every recording, only on 1 of the 2 cameras.
Official eufy support agree its a fault, ali express Official store first offered $8 usd, then offered 30% off a single cam.

Eufy australia not willing to do anything to help.

  • I've got the indoor pan & tilt camera T8410 and HB3. Anyone got it detecting people/cars/objects thru glass (looking outside)? It doesn't seem to pick anything up thru the Window. Do any of the other Eufy indoor cameras work in this scenario?

On a related note, has anyone managed to get the AU plug adaptors? I messaged the Eufy store in Ali and their reply was hopeless.

    • I have the both, but not looking outside so can't comment. Most likely you might be having shadows or reflection which could be the issue. Other thing could be if light is coming directly on the glass could be it.

I won't really bother with the plug adapters with them. I just used the US adapter it came with universal plug.

    • I also have both, and both indoors, looking outside through a normal window pane (ie not tinted). I have had motion detection on both at some point, and still use it when needed.

I think it is all about reflective angles as ace310 indicated. Eg a neighbour leaves home when still dark and in winter in particular his headlights cast a shadow over a portion of the lower driveway. This activates on motion detection if set. Also an angle that I had the camera once, reflected the inside door to the room the camera is in and would activate. Rectified that by changing the angle.

Also, I do not have the nighttime IR on as that reflects against the window pane and that in turn washes out the entire picture. Fortunately don’t need it on for that camera.

    • You probably need a window mount and also need to turn off any status lights so that they don't interfere with the camera lens at night. My WyzeCam V3 has dedicated camera mounts that you can buy separately. I got a couple of those for my WyzeCams that are indoor but pointing at the street.

Aside from that, your best bet is to get outdoor cameras and mount them outside.

  • Is there any difference between local and these from Ali express? Apart from maybe the warranty or lack there of and a power adaptor maybe?

    • I had issues with 1 of my camera, got a 30% refund

      • Was that out of the box? I’m guessing still useable for only a 30% refund

        • It has the issue with the bright white light before viewing live footage and video.
Still "works" but its a know bug with eufy.

I bought the 2 cameras and home base.

Took the 30% as i couldnt be bothered arguing with them.

I still use it as a backup footage/recording where there is a long walk time before it needs to record
