Wellington airport parking options

Travelling for two days. Looking for parking options in an around Wellington airport.
Family of 3. Have a 2 yr old so convenience is important.
Also, would it be cheaper to park car for two days or take Uber to and fro.
Light on luggage.

  • Recently booked uncovered at airport through their website. Was a cheaper option than just showing up and paying per day.
You can do long term parking for a little cheaper, but you need to use their shuttle service, leaves every ~15 minutes. Also it's only >3 days, but depending on flight times it might allow you to.
Some services like park and ride park your car on street and take you to airport, but it seems kinda dodgy, and last 2 times i felt a bit uneasy about their setup, cheaper and it did work out in end.

Taxi / Uber is dependent on how far away you are from airport.
I take my car as I like being in control of when I leave etc.

2 days uncovered, booked online is ~$72. Rates per day get cheaper the longer you park.

Check out the airport parking options and see if you find one in your budget. The cheapest is usually the long-term carpark booked online in advance. Allow an extra 15-20 mins as you have to wait for a shuttle to pick you up (and might need to call them from the booth).

I usually drop the wife, kids, and luggage off at the front and then park the car and catch up with them.

All the local parking is limited so I wouldn't bother unless it's a day trip.

Another option is to park in Lyall Bay. There's a tunnel under the runway that comes out near Z / Burger King or jump in an Uber for around $10. It's probably safer to park over the other side of the bay with more residential houses.

You can book the parking on the AirNZ site for the same price and get Airpoints.

Only 1 Airpoint for every $50 spent so hardly worth it but hey, it's free!

  • You can't take an Uber with a 2yo unless you bring a car seat or the Uber has a car seat. Only a licensed taxi can take kids without car seats.

  • Thanks for the inputs.
So far airport parking seams to be the most affordable and convenient option.

    • bit late but we used to do long term before kids, then wasn't worth the extra hassle except when we went away for a longer holiday once. We tried the offsite park n depart once to save some $$, but it was all too rushed, sometimes you have to wait around before they fill up their van and head to WLG. We usually went with the covered parking, was in the new building, never know what the weather is going to do and didn't cost much more, under cover for the short walk too, we often took our carseats so convenience was the top priority.
A ride on suitcase is great if you travel often, the inlaws gave us a Mountain Buggy bagrider.
