  • I did it the first time but don't remember if I had to provide proof of having a home loan. I think they just call you to speak on the phone for like 5 mins and and ask for your bank details to deposit the money. So you could do it again within 12 months

  • Yes they said they would call me back to go through home loan options but never did! The girl was very keen to have my payment details via email instead and move on. Not sure what ANZ are getting out of this but appreciate the no fuss $50!

  • Tempting, no idea what they could tell us seeing as we just fixed with them for 18 months so can't change anything, but $50 is $50.

    • I was in the same boat last time. Very brief call.

  • Last time they asked why I signed up for the check-in and I just said 'for the $50'. He was totally cool with it.

  • For those that have gone through the process, what do they ask you on the call? I do not have a home loan but would like the 50.

      You're suggesting fraud.

      • And banks have been doing just that since the dawn of time.

        • That is a weak rationale. You need to take a long, hard look on the mirror.

      • As if that's not a common thing nowadays. There's fraud and corruption everywhere.

There are plenty of scams on e.g. FB Marketplace happening on a daily basis. Guess what, the popos don't care unless it's a single transaction of at least $500+. Anything less, they don't care. Oh, your car got stolen and you've provided video footage of the thieves with their number plate? OH, you actually have video evidence of the person who broke into your house? Popos don't give a crap. Nobody cares anymore.

And here you are, trying to police someone getting a free 50. If you really care, then go and do something about the actual frauds out there. Otherwise, get off the high horse. This is Cheapies.

They just ask you some basic questions. I don't believe they actually validate your loan. Just make stuff up if you really want the 50.

When you request for a home loan contact (https://onlinestore.anz.co.nz/get/home-loan-contact-request), it'll ask you the address for which the home loan is under. I'm guessing they might check the title on the property and match it to your name. But anyone could easily just lookup any property to find the title and then use that name in your form.

I did this last time. The person that called me (about a week after I signed up) was actually very helpful and knew their stuff about mortgages. Unfortunately when it came time to re-fix a couple of months ago with ANZ I couldn't for the life of me get that person to contact me again and instead was stuck with hopeless/clueless randoms, so bad that I gave up and went with a different bank. But, it was the advice from the first person that spurred me on to do so and get a great deal with new bank.

Tldr, great advice, free 50 bucks, YMMV.

    • How do you actually get the $50. I just had a call but am at work he said he will email me and he can call me back.

  • I just asked what account they would deposit it in when I was speaking to them on the phone. They said it would be in our ANZ account within a week or so and it was :)

  • Have just got the call today.

No advice or anything as we're only due to refix in Nov 24 so a very quick phone call (2mins). Asked for a bank account for the $50 and will get it within a week. So, free $50..
