Mini PC Power Related Query (AC/DC stuff)

I feel like an idiot for asking.. but better safe than sorry if I purchase something in the near future.

Looking around on Amazon AU there seems to be a ton of cheap Mini PC's being sold these days but they all have stuff listed like power as DC 12V, 3A etc.

ie take something like this(ignore the price) DC 12V 3A listed on the image

If it does not come with a NZ/AU plug you just buy something like this and it's fine right?

  • I'm looking because they seem pretty good value for light use for my parents who mainly browse, watch YT on the computer and play the odd 1080p videos I give them.

ie this deal was for ~$285NZD(expired now)

Dreamquest Mini Desktop Computer Windows 11 Pro Preinstalled, Intel 12th N95 (up to 3.4GHz) Mini Pc with 16GB RAM 512GB M.2 SSD, USB3.2, BT4.2,WiFi 5

Downsides according to comments are: 16GB RAM is possibly single channel, 512GB M.2 SSD is SATA, CPU/onboard graphics not great for gaming(lol), HDMI output(no DP)

    Anyone else following the market?

    • Perspnally think none of these specs are going to be the bottleneck for watching youtube its a good box except the sata ssd is pretty old. You can get a dp to hdmi very easily if you need a converter but most monitors and tvs have hdmi.

Side note , I have a nuc 8gb ram 512ssd nvme ssd i7 if you want to get something thats from a solid manufacturer aswell let me know .

    • Get some known brand like beelink with N100 (12th gen) S12 is good for media. Better igpu and has ddr5 though single channel it has been reported it has crucial and better nvme in it.

This are comparable to 6th or 7th gen i5 processors but have way less TDP.

I just ordered Beelink eq12 (16gb/512gb) from aliexpress last week for around $320 shipped. I am going to run proxmox on it with Home Assistant VM, Plex VM and probably pfsense as well. Main reason was ddr5 ram, dual intel 2.5g(useful for pfsense) and branded crucial ram & nvme.

In saying that any 11th/12th gen processor in mini pc is good enough to even play 4k movies without issues. On reddit I have found people saying it can handle 2-4 4k streams in Plex fine.

When it comes to DC it's only the voltage you need to worry about and that the amperage is equal or greater than what is required. For example if it asks for 12v 3A, you can use a 12v 5A, but not a 12V 2A. The other thing you need to watch out for is the size of the DC barrel. For example it might be 5.5mm/3.5mm meaning 5.5mm OD, 3.5mm ID.

My assumption is they will have NZ/Au Adapter in most cases if sold by Amazon AU not Amazon US. But in case even if they don't, most of them are rated as 100-240v input. so you can easily buy $2 adapter/converter and use the existing adapter without issues.
