thanks mate :)
I have a similar looking Philips bar but the one that has google assistant and I hate the thing. It's takes forever to turn on and the arc connection just doesn't do power states. We now have it set to optical input and have to cycle through all the inputs every time we want to use it to wait the thing back up.
Wanted it because it also had google assistant and it regularly picks up on the Google home in the next room instead.
Sound is fine when it's working but the UI is a pain.
Been watching for a decent, basic soundbar/sub combo to go with my Philips OLED that I got on a good deal last year.
$169 bucks, solid reviews, this should do me lovely.
Thanks OP!
I currently have a Samsung T450 2.1 soundbar and it's adequate but has an annoying audio delay. It only has optical input, and I've tried every setting on the TV and bar to correct it. I'm at the stage I'm thinking about replacing it, but I'm scared that this will have the same issue.
Will using hdmi fix this?
Probably not unfortunately. Audio delay is a huge issue with digital audio formats as it just takes time for the digital signal to be decoded and processed by the soundbar. From what I understand, there are two things that can help with this issue: eArc (this soundbar is just Arc, need eArc TV and eArc soundbar), and some TVs have a lip sync feature on the TV itself. As the audio is delayed, what you really need is for the TV to delay showing the video accordingly to match. Unfortunately both of these features are only found on more recent TVs.
I have this problem with my older Hisense TV and Panasonic soundbar and it absolutely drove me nuts. The only thing that did help was mucking around in the audio settings of my chromecast to disable the higher quality audio formats like Dolby Atmos. Switching to PCM audio solved the sync entirely but sounded crap. In the end I settled on restricting it to Dolby Digital Plus which still has a minor delay but is passable.
That’s frustrating I’m sure.
Worth pulling out the manual to find an audio sync control.
To my knowledge optical is faster than HDMI, so the issue theoretically wouldn’t be resolved by switching to HDMI, however try that.
Also if there is no audio sync for the TV or in the soundbar manual, try changing audio output format, this could currently be Dolby Digital, change to PCM and see if that helps.
Two replies in a minute, 15 hours after you posted this, aren’t you lucky! ;)
Any free shipping codes at the moment?
Haven’t been any for a few months now.
Please anyone who buys, let me know how it is. Might buy if so.
Just got it today, it sounds pretty good for the price. The bass is good, however, doesn't exactly have the 'cleanest' sound, but then again for the price it's a very good product.
Any further feedback you can give? Contemplating this for my PC/PS5 set-up on the desk. Cheers
Like I said before, for the price it's very good.
Before this, I had monitor speakers but they were simply taking up too much space on my desk. Obviously compared to monitor speakers, the soundbar doesn't have the same level of L/R channel directional sound, since it kinda just comes straight at you.
But for casually listening to music and playing games, it's worth it. And most importantly in my case, it has a very small form factor, and fits perfectly under a 27-inch monitor.
Westgate store opening deals maybe
Do you when it is opening?
Nothing official yet but drove by on the weekend and the interior fitting looks to be almost done so hopefully before the end of November
Good timing. I just got one. Thanks for the post.
been looking for a cheap soundbar/sub combo that has AUX to use with my PC! Thanks OP, hopefully it’s good.
Just a little more expensive.
Free delivery at Noels though until Sunday.
I'm still holding out for the JBL bar 1000 to be cheaper. $1120 at the moment but I think it could go lower. Really like the detachable speakers concept so the tears warrant permanently set up to be pulled off the side by tiny people hands.
I have a JBL, putting it on trademe
Just took away & more since you haven't actually mentioned any other deals OP
