Thanks mate will consider this
After getting screwed over by 2Degrees recently, I went with these guys and so far I'm very impressed.
They got me up and running pretty much the next morning at 6am. Super fast service. Open term at $75 and no CGNAT. You get a dynamically assigned public IP, but it's been the same for me for a while now, so it seems pretty static to me. You can always use DDNS anyway. Some ISPs use CGNAT, so you might run into issues with things like your IP security camera.
As for performance, it's great. Getting about 328Mbps down and 110Mbps up, which is more than the line rated speed. No jitter and very stable speed on speedtest.net. So far so good.
Can I ask how you were screwed over? We've just signed up to 12 months at $57 with 2d…
$57 is really cheap. When did you sign up with them?
I was with MyRepublic previously, paid $70 for 300/100 and had a static IP as well. They were great, good service and I've never once had issues with them. I get max speed across my entire network. Unfortunately, they closed their broadband division and it got acquired by 2degrees recently. At this point, no issues with 2Degrees in terms of the internet speed or billing. But then I had to move house and called them up to schedule the transfer. I double checked with them that the transfer date is XYZ and my plan and bill won't change, they confirmed yes. Then both of those things got f'ked up and I had to call again a 2nd time. The lady on the phone sucked. Doesn't care about her job and just wasn't helpful. I immediately picked up on this early on and asked to speak to a supervisor, but did not complain it's because of her fault. She didn't want to transfer me and had to make me wait on the phone for 30 mins, instead of just calling me back like I suggested at the start (she wouldn't call back). Then I got upset and asked to speak to a supervisor and got her name down, but she made me wait another 15 mins because there were no supervisors sitting at their desk to take the transfer. I asked if she could see one walking around and she said yes. So she just sat on her ass during the 15 mins.
After speaking with the supervisor, he "sorted" everything for me. Then a few days later, I got a text message from 2Degrees saying they can't provide the same pricing and will be bumping me up to $100 a month instead. I complained again, spoke to a 2nd supervisor, then he told me that the "retention team" will get in touch with me to work out a plan. A week later, still no call from anyone. I got fed up and just cancelled with them and signed up to Hotshot, got up and running in no time.
I have a few properties, so I called them and said I'll be cancelling all my accounts with them. I'd rather pay like $5 more to go with Hotshot, than to be (profanity) by them and waste my time discussing a 12 month contract, just so I could be back to around what I was paying previously. Just a bunch of useless clowns running the place now and couldn't even get something simple done right.
I used to think quite highly of 2Degrees, but will be telling all my mates to pull their business away from them and use someone else instead.
similar experience with 300/100, they connected me a week later but at least i was still connected to my old isp so i still had internet
Ouch that's a poor experience. Thanks for sharing.
With utilities I just cross my fingers that things just work (as they should) so I don't have to deal with their crappy customer support. But it seems like roulette.
The $57 deal (with 6 months prime) was from a cold call a couple of weeks ago. My wife has a 2d mobile plan so I'm guessing it was because of that.
Here are the details:
Promotional offers: $10 monthly mobile bundle discount, Amazon Prime Video - 6 months free, $20 off Unlimited for 12 months, $10 discount for 12 months
Thanks, just have a look, look like we have to buy the modem off them or pay for the connection fees
You can use your existing modem/router if you have one. I work in IT, I have my own router. I just pre-configured it based on the details they provided me and I was connected at 6am the next day.
Zeronet are still offering 5 months half price.
6 months half price with this link https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/p/6-months-half-price-exc…. Good if you bring your own router.
They charge a $35 connection fees, just check again think slingshot have a better deal
afaik flip, stuff, slingshot and 2 degrees and orcon is owned by Vocus and all the same in the backend
is 2 degrees not the cheapest?
mind you, the screwed me around and signed me up to internet one week later than i asked for and i missed the prime gaming deals (free 6 months prime video account)
and they have random slowdown for what feels like days at a time (300mb fibre in auckland)
I think all 2degree deals are expired unless you bundle with power?
oh ok, sorry not aware
Just had this problem about three weeks ago. Settled with Slingshot with 77/month for their unlimited giga (900/500). I think the deal is with broadband compare.
I figured everyone usually ties around 72 on the fibre 300/100 (and yes 2D being the lowest but y'know), but I had Slingshot last year when Stuff Fibre ended and they were good didn't have any problems.
Also tried Electric Kiwi broadband since I had their electricity but they can't install fibre to my location so yeah opted for Slingshot at the end.
Also tried Electric Kiwi broadband since I had their electricity but they can't install fibre to my location
is it a new fibre installation?
otherwise that's weird
yeah a new fibre installation. they said they can't connect atm and can only service those who already have one.
oh yes i have heard that before
I am considering this as their unit price per kWh ($0.2020 gst included) are cheapest for me (daily charge $1.16), and have a free hour each day (but off-peak), do you think the cheaper unit price will offset the $81/month 300/100 broadband where i can signup for slingshot for $70 with12m contract ($65+$5rental). How do you guys maximize the usage of the free hour as it's a off-peak hour probably wont be anyone home as every go to work or school?
Hmmm I separated my electricity from broadband. I know they have their perks and all but they're not the lowest I've seen. I used Meridian here since I avg 400 kwH and they have the lowest I've seen around 0.1869 per kwH.
They don't have a free hour though but yeah Slingshot power on my location is a bit high. Deal is from power switch
How do you guys maximize the usage of the free hour as it's a off-peak hour probably wont be anyone home as every go to work or school?
hour of power off peak is anytime 9pm to 7 am and 9 am to 5 pm monday to sunday, you can change the hour online or on the phone app EVERY DAY until midnight for that day, then it would record that hour as free or keep the same hour. e.g. 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm or 9 pm to 10 pm. Up to you.
however it doesnt specify everyday how much power you used for free during your hour of power, just the half hourly usage so i was not sure if my usage was tracked correctly or not. at the end of your billing cycle it does say how much free hour of power kWh you used, but not daily breakdown (?maybe available upon request)
free hour of power: water heater, heat pump, charge electric car, washing machine, dishwasher,
this is a better explanation https://www.electrickiwi.co.nz/hour-of-power/also with electric kiwi you can leave anytime, no contract
Has anyone used Zeronet? How's the service and support??
Zeronet charge $35 for connection fees
Yeah I noticed, how's speed? connection ? any known issues?
Found it to be fine. Switched from Skinny and no issues at all.
Thanks, I will join them as they are offering half price for 6 months.
They offer a 30 day money back guarantee as well if you did run into any issues.
Slingshot now have 4 months free via glimp or BBC
@doubledippps: I ended up joining Slingshot under Broadband compare deal for $65pm for 300/100 which roughly the same as the 4months free ($64.7pm). Had to give 30 days notice for my current provider so hopefully all is fine once connected.
Update about Zeronet
So I agreed to sign up to zeronet connection yesterday evening and I was told by consumer.org rep the connection fee $35 will be charged after the connection is set up (23rd Nov) but turns out my card was debited last night for the amount. I contacted them this morning to cancel since the information provided and expectation set is incorrect.
I just can't stand these kind of transactions. I would have been fine with the charges if she told me that I will be charged upfront.
Just an FYI if anyone was thinking to join them.
How does consumer.org fit in with Zeronet?
I was on consumer.org checking out prices and current deals for broadband - after adding my details for zeronet I shortly received a call from a rep working for consumer.org asking if I'd like to join zeronet. I was initially suspicious about this call, so I got her to email me her details which she did and then called me again to complete the process.
Hope this helps.
There is usually some good black friday deals - I signed up to 2 degrees with that last year.
Ps - they are awful, do not use them!
Almost signed up for 2 degree haha
If you don't need any customer service they are amazing value with a good deal but yes if you ever need to call them etc its terrible.
I have had random slowdowns with them, some over 2-3 days. it's not mission critical as i only use internet for media consumption, not work
I didn't call them because I imagine i would be on hold forever and no resolution, sure enough speed came back a few days later. I don't know if other Vocus owned isp were affected at the same time
for comparison this never happened with Electric Kiwi prior to joining 2 degrees
https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/p/50-off-fibre-300-for-6-… this might be good? $855/year or around $72/month + get the TP link device.
